Just curious, did anybody else out there try and get F1 tickets today for the October race in Austin? I logged in right when they went on sale and everything was sold out! Do all tickets get sold to scalper companies now? Seriously, wtf?

    #2 2 years ago

The process has changed some the last couple years. Last two years you could put a non refundable deposit down per ticket months in advance of them going on sale. Then before they go on sale to the general public there is a pre sale period where the track will call you directly to get your seats. This is managed directly with COTA sales staff. I have been going this route direct through COTA for years. I have had my tickets for two weeks and I am no VIP or anyone special. I work with Joe Petty - [email protected]

Awesome! His email is going in my phone!

You will want to reach out and get on his list so he knows to contact you when deposits start. For this year deposits started right after the race in October for the next year. So if you don’t see an email then reach out. But you definitely want to get in their system.

    Email just sent! Thanks again

    #6 2 years ago

Woah! I have travel booked for this race and had no idea about the on sale. Sold out already!? Damn!!!

    I just sent joe an email….fingers crossed…

    #7 2 years ago

Worst case scenario: just change your travel plans and come to Montreal!

...but better book your hotel though...like ASAP!!!

    #8 2 years ago

Glad to see the race has caught on. It's only taken 70 years for it to gain popularity in the US .

The track, facilities and Austin itself are fantastic. Way better than Indy was.

I've been to F1 there twice, and lucky enough to club race there too.

    #9 2 years ago

Are we allowed to talk F1 here? Don’t want to spoil qualifying or races for anyone.

Has anyone been to the Miami Grand Prix? Took my wife to Miami for the first time last year and had a great time. Been wanting to go back, thinking on planning trip around the Grand Prix next year.

This is the first year for the Miami Grand Prix. I am going to Austin. Maybe somebody here will be going to Miami and can report back.

Thanks! Newer fan to the sport via the Netflix series. I sent an email to the broker posted above to hopefully be able to secure some tickets for next year. What were prices like for Austin? Resale for this year in Miami where insane, being the first year for it I guess that makes sense now.

The broker above deals in Austin race only as he is a track employee at COTA. He may have an idea who can help you get early access to Miami. My 3 day pass sitting in the Turn 12 bleachers was about $540. That is up $100 from the last few years. I heard Miami prices were insane but I haven’t honestly looked.

I never head back from him, likely because it's not an inquiry related to his job. Sounds like I need to find someone I can directly reach out to who works with the Maimi race. Although, with the new announcement of the race in Las Vegas I'm wondering if I'm better off just trying to score a room with a track view for the weekend of the race, as soon as the dates are announced.

Las Vegas to host Formula 1 night race from 2023
    31 March 2022

The world-famous neon lights of Las Vegas will provide the backdrop to Formula 1’s newest race when the American city hosts a night event from 2023.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday next November and be one of three races in the United States, joining Miami and Austin.

Las Vegas hosted races in 1981 and 1982 but this will be the first time F1 cars will race on the iconic Las Vegas Strip, with the circuit sweeping past famous hotels and casinos.

The 14-turn track will run for 3.8 miles (6.12km) with top speeds expected to hit around 212mph (342km/h).

Yeah that would be my guess. 2023 Vegas with cars flying down the main strip at night…going to be epic.

Yes, I'm looking to attend a race next year. Either Miami if I can get tickets, or I Vegas if I can get a room with a view.

Prepare your wallet: room rate during F1 weekend is really high.

    For example in Monaco:
There is a high-octane boost in the rates for the Grand Prix and, according to Monaco-Matin, it isn't uncommon to pay around €7,000 ($7,800) for two nights in a room which would usually cost around €1,000 ($1,100) for the weekend.

That's quiet the multiplier! I guess we will see. Given the size of Vegas, hopefully it's not as high but I'm sure the more premium rooms (ex: one's with a balcony) could be up there. I did just read that the race is in November, but I don't think they have specific dates. I suppose you could go ahead now and book a room for each weekend and cancel the others

I've been fortunate to attend many F1 races in the US and internationally, all of the cities are crazy for that weekend.

They need rooms for the attendees and all the hangers on, like 2-3 times the attendance. Kind of like New Orleans is for the Final four. There's not that many tickets, but they use up every single hotel room for 100 miles. But it's more like the Super Bowl in that there are a lot of imported 'adult entertainers' around too.

Last Austin race I went to the Hampton in was a grand a night with a 3 night minimum. We used to camp in a tent trailer @ Mosport & Watkins Glen when I was a kid. Things sure have changed.

BTW - Most Vegas Hotels don't have balconies because of the liability and they are also set way back from the strip. You'd be better in the grandstands down close.

Looking forward to watching this season as there appears to be more parity among the teams. I'm sure the second half of the season will be all Mercedes again as they always figure out how to win.

I was able to get GA tickets for Austin last week from an international broker for 405$ each. Probably the best price out there at this point. Will be my first in person race.

I've been to the race in Austin three times and it's been a logistical nightmare. We couldn't park at the track (like every other of the 100+ races I've been to), maybe you need a special pass or permit or something. We had to shuttle from downtown and there was a huge wait to get on the shuttle, then when you got to the track you had to walk another mile to the gate. Then another huge wait to get back on the shuttle to get dropped off back downtown after the race. It's cool to go once but I probably would go again. Hopefully it's not raining while you are waiting for a shuttle.

Buying a parking pass ahead of time is key. Sucks you had to deal with getting shuttled in.

Wish my wife and I were going - I looked into a three day package for the two of us and wow - sticker shock for sure.

It’s a great time if you can make it one of these years. Here’s a couple pics from the private Ferrari event on Thursday. Leclerc made an appearance. Was cool to see him. He was a taller than I would have thought.

Count me as a Formula 1 fan as well as a pinhead. But as my username suggests, sports cars are where my heart truly belongs. I’ve been to COTA, Monaco, Singapore and Malaysia. As much as I enjoy Drive to Survive and appreciate the exposure it’s given to a sport that I’ve followed for many, many years, it’s also a bit rough seeing how it’s affected the access and increased costs here in the US. I was all pumped for Vegas until I saw the prices, no wonder it’s far from being sold out and I’m getting ticket offers on almost a daily basis.

I used to get 3 day Turn 12 tickets at COTA under $400. Prices are double that now. Drive to survive jacked up prices big time. Then COTA jacked them up even more this year since it was a sprint race weekend. They claimed that made the tickets more desirable. But if it isn’t a sprint race next I am certain they won’t be lowering ticket prices from this year!
