Never mind modern, this problem goes back to at least Ripley's Believe it or Not. The head doesn't eat the ball on the playfield, all we get is the puke-balls animation.

Perhaps Gomez realizes what the people want and what's needed to turn Stern around and an ETB Ripley's is the first pre Spike 2 remake to come?
We haven't had any ETB fan fantasy-fic in a while.
Here's how I see it
The shark rises out of the playfield! Naturally, you shoot the ball into the shark's mouth.
But that's not all of it.
Now, you have to shoot the ball and HIT the ball that's stuck in his mouth. Smile you sunofabitch!!!! When you nail it, the shark explodes!!! (at least on the screen). It'll be just like movie; ball 1 is the tank stuck in his mouth and ball 2 is a shotgun blast!!! Maybe it shakes around like the death star.
It all seems like a missed opportunity.

This could work great for an SLE repurposing the two ball destroy the ring magnet + mech choreography (DTR ETB?)
With all the buzz around potential Pedretti remakes, which 2.0 ETB upgrades would most tickle your fancy?
I'll start with an obvious one: maybe the TZ piano ETB on the dmd (and add a burping some effect) + add a mouth sculpt to the top of the power mini playfield (burp sound effect here too when getting the ball through the top).
