I have done just a few Whirlwinds over the years but this was the first true Diamond Plate that I have reworked. It needed some extra help here and there but I finally got it where I needed it to be.

Here is the restore link

Looks fantastic Chris! As someone that just finished a Whirlwind restore of my own, It was fun seeing how an expert like yourself goes about restoring a game that I'm so familiar with.
I noticed in your pics that you had to make up your own topper bracket. I was going to do the same on mine but luckily found a generous Pinsider that just fabricated some brackets on his own that very closely resemble the original. Just pm me if you want to be put in contact with him. The finished bracket is painted a flat black and is a really nice replacement.

Those look great.I wish I had known at the time I would have definitely grabbed one.I looked for while just to find one to copy but only found a few pictures. It is too late to swap because the game will be gone but I wouldn't mind getting a couple to keep for a spare and pass on to the owner if he decides to change it. .

Beautiful game. I am, however, curious as to why you paint the inside cabinet sides all the way to bottom as opposed to doing a gradual fade/overspray like the factory. I am not criticizing, just wondering why. I guess it's pretty darn obvious that everything else is "better than new' so why not make that more appealing as well.

I get ask that often.

For me I just like the look and consistency of it.The factory cabinets are all over the place from title to title and even game to game so it makes the most sense to have one pattern and process unless it has to be done differently for the sake of the build.Creature is the only one that comes to mind there. The floor has to be black in some areas.

Here are examples of the inconsistencies I am faced with using just the current games in process and why I stay with a standard system in the interest of a nice look and consistent results.

Medieval madness too the floor and beyond.

Twilight Zone barely past the playfield edge but with a little overspray around the chocks here and there.

TOTAN #1 Between the MM and TZ level.

TOTAN #2
Less than TOTAN #1 but more of an effort to paint the chocking here and there.
