Just curious, why stick with AAs of any kind? Why not either a coin cell battery clip, supercap, or nv-ram adapter option? All three get rid of the possibility of alkaline batteries doing further damage and the last two obviate the need for any kind of battery. Otherwise, sounds like a decent price.
