I went to take a look at a JD a few weeks ago, and someone had installed a credit button underneath the cabinet. I'm sure there is a logical reason why someone did this, but I can't for the life of me think of what that reason might be.

    What is a "credit" button?

Fleece your friends and neighbors for money? I know someone that owns a Police Force that has a switch inside the machine to add credits. Now I know the silliness of this, as you could do the same thing by hitting the coin mechanism. You still have to open the cabinet.

It's a button that allows you to add credits to the game without putting in any quarters. It's seems like the kind of thing that would only make sense in a home environment, but I don't understand why it's necessary on a game that can be set to free play.

Newbie - lazy - battery acid damage (not keeping memory)

My WW was routed and when you open the coin door there was a 2nd switch that shut the machine off. If I had a credit button it would of been handy to play/use that until I figured out how to free play it for that week.

Probably the same people that use quarters. They probably like to hear the credit up sound bytes. I manually credit from time to time to hear them on my machines. I have even considered going to coins for the full arcade vibe.

That would be my educated guess. It's not keeping memory, and on power-up it goes to factory settings; which require you to drop a quarter.....

Or they did not do their research and look for the option in setup. On my DE SW, it was buried and a little hard to find.

The black knight I just bought has one installed too. I don't know why as it can be set for free Play

perhaps ignorance? Finding things in used pins that doesn't make sense to an educated enthusiast / technician is nothing new!

How easy is it to take out a credit switch?

    #12 12 years ago

Depends how they Rigged it. Most likely, its just soldered to one one of the coin switches (bottom of the door). Just unsolder the 2 contacts.....
