Here's what I use...the strip of wood with the cork or other padding ( felt, cardboard ) goes on the outside of the cab to prevent dents from the clamps. The strip of wood with the packing tape goes inside, the tape prevents seeping glue from sticking to it. Use as many clamps as you need. A thin piece of metal makes a good glue inserter, and if you work the split closed and open with your fingers as you add glue, that will force the glue deeper in the split.image.jpgimage.jpg

Basically you put a bead of glue on the metal or paper then get it as far into the split before wiping the glue off. Repeat until the split is fairly coated. Not perfect, but if the cabinet isn't upside down and you don't have a syringe, it works.

Wax paper works well. I guess what I didn't make clear earlier was that clear package tape can be applied to the scrap wood giving one less thing to fumble with when assembling the clamps and blocks. A good coat of wax, instead of tape, on the scrap wood will also keep glue from sticking to it.
