I have Hobbit and absolutely love it. That said, I haven't played DI but it looks awesome. I actually like the idea of the theme. I would say play both. Hobbit is great and gets pretty intense with a great package of sounds and lights. I can fully understand why some people hate it, but I like it for being different than anything else. We're a huge fan of the movies though so take that into account. DI does seem to have a more varied way of playing which I like. Again try both, and make your own decisions. I'm glad I didn't listen to the Hobbit haters, it's pretty fun once you understand it.
