    Quoted from Bellystyle:

Did you not notice that the other Bally Star Trek was a super custom one off bizzaro world reversed playfield version that won best of show a while back. If I'm not mistaken, the plunger is on the left side of the game, and the whole playfield is mirror version with the left side on the right, and the right side on the left. One of the coolest custom jobs I've ever seen. You better go back and play it. I would...

Zitt 's game. He did an amazing job on it. Glad to see it at a show again.

Elf continues to impress…nice talent behind this software and design. Hope someone picks up on it.

    Quoted from Pinup:

I have been on Pinside for quite a few years, but not really active. I recently retired and have some more time and want to be more involved. I also verified my account just so I could post in this thread. I am in the DFW area and attend the TPF every year (every year it is held, anyway). Having a great time as usual this year, but couple of thoughts:
Spooky is in an awkward location and it was hard to get in line to play their games. I don't know the politics, pricing, etc., of space allocation, but if vendors are going through the trouble of bringing in machines, the spacing might be more of a consideration.
The food trucks have been a really good idea but the ones that have been brought in (in my opinion) haven't been great. It seems like the ones this year were lacking. (Trying to be kind because I love the event and just offering my take.) Surely, the volume could support some better options.
I was also a little surprised at the lack of more recent A list games (Met, AC/DC, Deadpool, MM remake, etc.), but I guess people aren't bringing their HUO machines out. I didn't so I can't fault anyone for that.
Overall, this is a great event and I am really happy it is in my backyard and the organizers do a fantastic job. It was great see lots of the newest games from most manufacturers and some of the largest distributers.

With you being retired, right there in the local area, and wanting to get more involved, sounds like this is the perfect opportunity for you to bring some fresh ideas and solutions to the current situation and help manufacturers overcome space limitations, collectors bring their A-list/HUO/$8000-$25K pinball machines for the entire general public to enjoy, and find some local food vendors to attend this event with new culinary options!!!

I look forward to the changes coming in TPF 2023!

    Check out Cary Hardy’s Getaway.
Some restorations are a lot of show but no go.
This one has been dialed in all weekend.
    Nicely done.

This was my first time going to TPF and all I have to say is, wow! My wife and kids went as well and we had a great time.

Everything seemed to be well organized and everyone I interacted with was super friendly.

I will say that I agree with others on the floor plan though - It almost seems like they need additional floor space. Not a dig at the show or anything, just an observation.

I attended in 2017, 2018, and 2019, By 2019 the show was Amazing as always, but way overcrowded, TPF seriously needs to look at a larger Venue. Didn't get there this year, hope to make it in 2023.
Thanks for sharing all the pictures, and Mr Hardy for his YouTube walkthrough.

    Cheers.

Yes, I've been attending since it was a little local show. While it's cool that they have been able to make it into such a big deal, it's also a little sad.

This year there were far more people than machines, meaning that virtually every machine had a line. And a big chunk of the games were either turned off, or had no credits on them.

Having lots of vendors is great, but I really only got to play a handful of games all day (and didn't get to play a lot of the ones I was hoping to - as those had especially long lines).

On top of that, you couldn't even play in a tournament unless you signed up a long time ago. I'm not sure how to fix these problems but it seems to get worse each time.

I'm glad I went, and will most likely attend next year as well, but each time it seems like I enjoy it less.

NPO and this is exactly why I don't post here more, lol. This thread is about "your" experience at the event. I tried to go out of my way to be complimentary and just offered my observations based upon this year versus prior years. It is a fantastic event and I will be happy to volunteer. Enjoy your weekend!

Yep, the venue is the only negative to the show in my personal opinion. It is just not large enough. Hopefully the TPF people consider moving it to a larger location at some juncture.

Can’t speak to prior shows, but this one has not been as crowded as expected imho.
Fairly easy all weekend to get on games.
CAX in CA is much worse at peak hours.

Billy Madison was awesome. Designer was a very nice guy, as well. My wife and I loved it

    #73 2 years ago

My highlights. Not too bad to get on the top 10 for GZ and Mando with sub 25 plays total. This was about an hour ago, so its not like this was 15 min onto the show lol.

I have no clue what the hell I did on Hot Wheels, but man that was a long game.

Also played LoV.....it's a good game just a bit more solid state in feel than we're used to from modern games. Had a good time with it, the shot i to the boat is pretty satisfying.

    I still hate Mando.

Fewer attendee games than in recent recent years maybe, but all the energy! Seemed like more vendors than 2019? Great show! Overwhelming thanks to the TPF team! The check in crew and customer service booth folks were amazing! Already looking forward to next year!

Agree. Billy Madison was great. It was a Bally Spring Break re-skin, so not full custom build, but it was really well done. I loved the theme, call outs, music, artwork, humor, gorgeous cabinet. I'd buy one. Bravo.

The full-custom Elf was much more ambitious, but it wasn't fully working. I was still very impressed and feel it has great potential.

Overall score of this years show a solid B (it was good) 2014-2019 were better shows.
First of all this is MY EXPERIENCE...we are all entitled to our opinions so be nice. These are all observations and MY OPINION. Take it like a grain of salt please.

Pro: There were a few older games from the 80's I had never had a chance to play in either several years.. (Pink Panther, Genie, and a few early 80's sterns that I had never seen before)

Pro: There were some awesome EMs this year and 95% of them playable versus other years when people would bring an unplayable beat up 500 dollar swap meet machine just so they could get in for free. This was so welcoming.

Pro: Far less drunks and rude people then in past years. Far more etiquette was followed. (a breath of fresh air)

Pro: Lots of brand new 2021, 2022 games like Aliens, Godzilla, Rush etc. There were more Rush's, Godzillas and Cactus Canyon remakes than you could shake a stick at. Godzilla was by far the best machine there and I had a blast playing it.

Pro: for the first time ever there wasn't a bunch of machines that I wanted to play but couldn't because they are tournament only. In past years I wanted to cry when I saw a favorite machine or rare machine in the tournament area. I am not a tournament player and I don't want to spend 5 dollars extra just so I can have a chance to play them.

Pro: Friday the right amount of people and not as crowded as past Fridays.

Pro: Ed's Big Smoke ...I am a cigar smoker so 'nuff said

Pro: I always appreciate Ed and his crews hard work every year.

Neutral : The Venue (double edged sword)...I love this venue but they are so greedy with the Stadium prices for their personal pizzas , nachos etc... They Nickle and dime you for parking at 10 dollars a day. I mean this is a suburb (Frisco) not some downtown parking structure. They are so GREEDY...but this was expected and I circumvented this by eating before I came or going across the street to Fever Pitch to have a nice meal at a typical restaurant price. (all in all this is a minor gripe because this venue is tons better than Grapevine shows 2012 and before. And leaps and bounds better than the horrible Anatole 2013 location in downtown Dallas) Like a few have said we might need a bigger venue like the venue in Arlington where they host the Dallas comic con...(just an idea)

Con: I did not like the Tournament upstairs because of personal reasons. I went up there twice looking for friends and the room was STUFFY and hot. I should have used the elevator because of my recent knee surgery. (all in all this is a very minor gripe)

Con: The food trucks were absolute garbage and lacking this year. It was Friday at 5pm and they were out of half of their items. This was the first year the food trucks absolutely sucked since 2013. Saturday 12 noon the same food truck with half of its items gone had only 2 styles of pizza left and nothing else. It was comical.

Con: Too many turned off /broken modern machines (machines from the 90's and early 2000's turned off the whole show. You could walk down a row of machines and 25% of them were turned off both Friday and Saturday. I only saw the Pinsmith ONE time. In past shows machines were very quick to get fixed.

Con: Modern Sterns from 2013-2019,2020 were almost non existent. No AC/DC, Metallica ,Munsters, Black Knight, Batman 66, Medieval Madness remake or Monster Bash remake. There was only one Elvira, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Tron, Star Trek to name a few.

Con: the lines SUCKED..They sucked so bad I went home from and stayed home from 2pm to 7pm on Saturday. At 7pm (Saturday) the lines were better on most machines except The P3 area with a line longer than a DMV line to play Weird Al.

Con: (for me) Too many vendors. There is so much hall space that some of these smaller vendors could be outside the main hall as you walk in so lines could form better for games. By doing so you could even fit more games instead of changing venues.

If you want to see the Gottlieb "King Pin" from the show floor come to life, we have a photo album with over 400 photos and videos, of which even the illustrious NicoVolta (Nic Schell) makes an appearance! Lots of different parts and processes are illustrated. It might be helpful to you if you took one apart without also taking pictures, or if you want to see a literal barn find get turned into a tournament-grade machine!

Lots of crop dusting was occuring in the main hall. I had to walk away from games a couple times when it smelled like someone shit themself. Otherwise had a great time. And agree with Rat that they need more repair techs. way too many pins powered down. And a few too many vendors hogging the floor space. Some weren't even selling anything and had absent booths the whole show.

    All well said.

I couldn’t make it but want to order some anti glare glass.

Coin Taker was selling VooDoo like crazy. Walked by their booth several times last night and I think every box (probably 20+ in their area was marked as sold with a name on it).

Thank you to whoever mentioned to TITAN that I was trying to get hold of them.
    Now in talks.

Overall, I enjoyed the show, met lots of people in person that I've communicated with via Pinside, hand delivered some mods and even pickup up a few things. I was a little disappointed with lack of some newer Sterns, and wasn't sure why they didn't have any Avengers in their booth. Also, I agree that their were more than usual downed pins. However, I know the support team was working hard and doing the best they could as I saw them on the floor working all night. We all know that pins break, but I put it mainly on the owners for not responding when this occurs. I texted two different owners with downed pins and never got a response. On a positive side, I will say that overall the pins seemed in better condition to me than previous years (e.g. clean, levelled, flippers aligned, etc.) I'm sure that many take advantage of the free admission by having a pin on the floor, and it seems at times that some take advantage of this.

I also had one really odd experience. I was playing the Mezel Mods Godzilla pin which was located in a tent next to their booth. Out of nowhere some stranger reached under the tent wall and grabbed me around the right ankle with both hands for about 5 seconds and wouldn't let go. It was truly an weird experience. They were obviously male hands/arms, but when they let go and I walked out of the tent and around the corner to confront the person nobody was there - probably a good thing for both of us.

I know the Titan owner and their booth was swamped all night, so probably why they were slow to respond to any messaging.

Maybe they were really shy and trying to flirt...?

I'm glad I did a lot of other touristy things in the Dallas area, to make this trip worth it. I was always under the impression that this was the biggest pinball show in the country and that there would be 400 to 500 pinball machines. That was not the case, and it was frankly a disappointing show.

Certainly, thank you to the organizers and those who put it together. But, there were nowhere near that many games. There was not a good selection/plentiful selection of recent year games. Chicago Pinball Expo puts this to shame -- minus some of the fluff decorations at this one, unfortunately.

Beyond that, an improvement for the future, would be having more hand sanitizers outside of the game hall. It seemed you had to search all over for something, to feel alright about touching food just outside of the game hall. It is truly gross standing behind someone waiting to play a game and watching them touch and rub their nose every 30 seconds on a game. Or, worse, some guy stick his entire finger in his mouth to pick at a tooth.

That stuff is great. I wish I could have been there to buy some.

I would...

That game has been at the show for years but it is truly great work. I don’t know the person who did it but he cut no corners. It beautiful.

wow!!! I haven’t been in many years (last time back when it was still close to the airport in 2003).

I just stopped by on Sunday morning and am blown away how massive this event is. I’m glad it’s just a short drive from my house in Dallas.

Very cool. I got to play almost all machines that I’m interested in and had a great time.

    Fantastic event, TPF organizers!!

The BM machine was a Party Animal retheme. There’s a PA on the right side (as you’re walking in) to compare against BM. PA just isn’t as much fun.
