In process of doing a PF swap on my taxi
Notice the wood side rails have plastic @ shrink tubing.
I have never seen this before, they have been painted black typically.
Was this something Williams was trying out as a cost savings?
What have others done? I.e. Removed shrink tubing and paint black
If paint was it gloss or semi or satin?
TaylorVA will make you new ones for $50 if you send him your old ones as a template, painted instead of laminated. Yes, all System 11 wood guides are covered in laminate instead of painted.
If you try and remove that contact paper style stuff on the sides of the playfield stiffener rails, you'll quickly become very frustrated, and you'll likely be disappointed with the quality of the wood underneath. Plus, many times the originals have a finger joint where 2 pieces of wood were joined, and these are ugly and at this point, the glue is usually long since dried out, and the finger joints don't 'hold' anymore with the vinyl removed.
Taylor's reproduction rails are the real deal. Better quality of wood than original. Stronger.
