Just got a TFTC and when you turn it on there is a annoying hum coming from it. Is this normal? I tried turning volume up and down and that does nothing to remove the hum? Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks

I think this is normal with DE games from this era, I tried some things to remove the hum totally but nothing seemed to help. My Tommy does it a little bit but honestly when playing I don't notice it. Usually only notice it in attract mode when there isn't music going all the time.
Make sure EVERY board in the backbox has EVERY screw installed.
If that does not fix it, you would have to get out an oscilloscope and track down the problem.
sounds like a grounding issue, especially if it sticks around during game play. see 'vid1900's comment.
No I notice it during attract mode when not in use it just a constant annoying hum that is total crazy compared to my other silent games.
I have an R&B that does the same. I assume it's a transformer issue? Sounds like a 60 cycle hum or something... fairly loud, but not as loud as the game music.
The R&B has other issues, though. I'm thinking the voltages are not consistent, because the DMD starts to lag behind the callouts and game by several seconds sometimes... and eventually all sounds stop, and reset. The game keeps going, though. I was reading something about voltage levels and replacing caps or something... will have to look that up again.
