Hi,

The lower bumper seems to work fine when I first turn the machine on and play a game. Then after a game or 2 it will just not respond and when hit it will set off the upper bumper and do nothing itself but seems like it wants to.

On both I have changed the sleeve in the coil, skirt, new spoon, cleaned the contacts on the switch and just cause I had them next to me when I was doing this I also replaced the resister in the proper direction.

Everything ive read says the coils just would not work and time would not degrade them. They look in good shape. But I am sure they are the originals. Some 30 plus years old?

What do I need to look for here?

Thanks in advance

This picture is before I cleaned them up and replaced these things.

you are going to need to check the diode (not a resistor, big difference) on the switch. It is more then likely going bad, especially if it is working and then stops after a bit of time, it is pretty much on its way out. You can use a 1n4004 to replace it.

The one on the coil. Correct?

The diode on the switch.

If the coil diode is open the coil will still work, but can cause other issues with the game. If the switch diode is intermittent, the switch will only work sometimes.

Duh, terminology is everything here. That is what I ment to say when I was doing the small rebuild part. I changed out the 1n4004 on the switch. So thats new. I'l change it out just in case. But it was doing this same thing before I changed out the diode.

Those leaf switches are crap. I've switched (no pun intended) to these:

Just the switch and spoon:

You won't need the bracket but the switch is very well made and can be adjusted to a hair trigger gap.
