Hey all,

I am helping out a friend troubleshoot their Stellar Wars that has some display/scoring issues. The 1st and 3rd player score displays flicker, and the score seemingly resets when the first digit rolls over. The ball count display is also flickering intermittently. See video.

So far I have reseated all the connectors visible in the video, and swapped the first player display with a spare - no change to the issue.

I am assuming it’s a control board rather than the displays themselves.

What should I try next? I am assuming there’s going to be some solder reflow involved but would like some guidance.

I’m going to check the displays one at a time, then check resistor values.

But this is sounding similar -

A user emailed with a Black Knight that had different score digits/segments starting to burn, while others appeared faded or not at all. Replacing MPU board chip IC6 (74154) fixed the problem. Remember a bad 74154 chip will effect digits on both players 1 & 3, or players 2 & 4.
