It's been a while since we had any action here so I thought I would humbly ask to join the club as I acquired a Scared Stiff recently! Machine is BEAUTIFUL (cabinet, playfield, etc.) and I uploaded a video (link below) of the home made Boney Beast LED mod that really changes the playfield. Pinsider Visi0n inspired me to do this after he had shared his idea with me and for $15 it's one of the coolest mods you can do to your SS. I've also attached a few pics...LOVING THIS MACHINE.

Quoted from nman:

That mod looks pretty cool. Haven't seen that one before.

Its a home made mod using a remote controlled LED strip. It's not a resale mod.

#2069 7 years ago

I just updated the video link as the old one wasn't working. It's updated in the original post and also provided here...

Quoted from _litz:

that LED strip under the bony beast is interesting ...
Wondering though, what people think of the white light? Might it look better with a softer white, or even amber?

The led strip comes with a remote which allows you to change to a specific color if you choose. It even let's you dim the lighting to your preference. If you prefer amber...hit the amber button. It changes on the fly...very awesome.

Here is the link for the LED strip. It comes with everything you need (strip, remote, power supply) and the waterproof strip adds a little thickness to the strip which made it easier to install IMO.

Here is the link to the inner playfield decals bought at Tilt Graphics

I just picked this up at the Spirit Halloween store. I'm thinking it'll make a nice topper.

What are the dimensions?

I'm ready to order my first color dmd and I'm gonna install it on the machine I most enjoy! SS, of course!!! Any recomendations? Has anyone tried the LCD and/or the LED versions? Which one is better and why?

I'm in the same boat. I saw a side by side comparison of LCD vs LED at Expo and the LED seemed much more vivid and authentic to me. That said is SS supported for LED yet?

Anyone know if Freeplayamusements.com is still operating? I want to buy the Dancing Boogiemen slings addons from their site but when I email to check availibility it bounces back saying that the email does not exist. They have a PayPal button set up but I don't want to send $99 to find out that the product isn't there anymore or have no way to contact the seller. I saw some on ebay at one point but you had to do some drilling which I'd like to avoid all together. Any ideas?

#2168 7 years ago

Clicking on that link it says "SOLD OUT."

#2181 7 years ago
Quoted from BobC:

I got mine from freeplay at the end of October.
Worse case file a paypal claim, but I had no trouble

I emailed Robert Winter and he also suggested Freeplayamusements.com. Just completed my order with Paypal...happy to report what happens from here.

#2182 7 years ago

Just to follow up...I was contacted by Mark at Freeplayamusements.com just now via email. He thanked me for my order and said my kit would be assembled this evening and would be shipping tomorrow. Can't wait to get the Dancing BOOGIEMEN slings going!

I also took the plunge and ordered the ColorDMD LED version for SS today. So I think at this point Scared Stiff is just about complete. (I am thinking of designing and printing a custom back panel decal for the back of the playfield though. Something that ties in with the Dead Heads and the Labatory.)

Quoted from Whitewater:

I just put a color LED display in mine which I got from colordmd.com
LED has more brightness and contrast than the LCD which seems to suit SS.
I couldn't be happier, it was a very easy install and super fast delivery.
Merry Christmas

I also put the ColorDMD LED in my Scared Stiff and it's unbelievable. In addition I added the Dancing Boogiemen add-on from Freeplay Amusements and that's another solid addition. Scared Stiff is just a great pin and gets the most play in my lineup of Twilight Zone, Ghostbusters Premium, and Terminator 2.

One warning about adding your first ColorDMD...you will want to colorize all of your machines so beware!

Anyone know a place to purchase a new Boney Beast ramp? Added a wanted add.

Starship-fantasy.com has new repros. I need a new bat ramp. If you want to order together (there is a discount for buying both ramps together versus individually) it will be cheaper for us both and we both live in Illinois. PM me if you are interested!

Quoted from BobC:

FYI new ramps are in stock at starship fantasies

I ended up ordering my bat ramp at Bay Area Amusements as every time we called Starship Fantasy they told us "next week". This went on for weeks and then we noticed they were available at other places.

My bat ramp should be here Tuesday. Not sure if I'm looking forward to putting it in though. Anyone have any tips? Going to change out the enterance ramp optos at the ssme time as those recently started to not register. Glad they seem to be in stock at multiple places now.

#2322 7 years ago
Quoted from BobC:

Starship Fantasies is the only maker of the ramps, under license of PPS, and one of the PPS owners also owns BAA...just a convoluted FYI

I understand that. I was just speaking of the stock issues I was having. Ramp is here now so no worries.

Quoted from weaverj:

just updated the firmware on my colordmd. was running original 2.0. i can do hi-res now! pretty sweet.

What exactly does this mean as I've been running a ColorDMD LED on Scared Stiff for a while? Thanks!

#2456 6 years ago
Quoted from weaverj:

the update part or hi-res part?

How about both?

#2458 6 years ago
Quoted from weaverj:

http://colordmd.com/support_firmware_colordmd.html
hi-res is a viewing option, i'm guessing starting at 3.0, which blends the dots together. have you ever gone into the options? there's buttons on the back of the dmd.

Oh, I understand. Your talking about that blending option on the LCD tyle display. That's not available on the LED version. Thanks for clarifying.

I'm in the club for a second time. This time I went all in with a Bryan Kelly restored HUO Scared Stiff with clearcoated playfield. Couldn't be happier! Great to be back in the club

Quoted from AlexSMendes:

I am yet to figure out why you guys drool so much about these brian kelly and hep restores when these guys can't even match the coin-door paint jobs with the cabinet colors...

Bryan_Kelly didn't paint the coin door (it was an aftermarket add-on). If that's that reason you can't understand or appreciate what goes in to a high end restore then you're missing the point in my opinion...

#2495 6 years ago
Quoted from AlexSMendes:

Dude, ALL of my pins have gone through complete cream-of-the-crop restorations! Anyway, I strongly suggest you get a correct paint-job on your coin-door...

I'm not sure why you have to publicly criticize Bryan_Kelly or High_End_Pins on their restoration work because of a paint job on an aftermarket coin door that they didn't paint? It makes zero sense to me. This is a SS owners club. Not sure why you feel to need to bash a couple of the more well respected restore specialists in this community?
