Most likely you blew both the blocking diode and the drive transistor the instant this coil was activated as each would have subjected to far more current than they were designed to handle.

This statement confirms that the drive transistor has blown and is locked on, as even with a shorted blocking diode, the fuse will not blow until the coil is commanded on.
Replace both the drive transistor AND the blocking diode and you should be okay.
