    Quoted from CubeSnake:

FWIW, it's only a matter of time before Tim or his paramour (wife?) approach the wrong person with their shrill shrieking and carrying on and they'll get their clock cleaned, but good. The clock is ticking......

I love that people keep saying things like this, not quite advocating violence but definitely would be happy about it. That’s messed up.

And also, Tim would absolutely press charges against anyone who did that and would likely pursue legal action as well. Is it really worth jail and/or fines because some guy doesn’t like a kid?

    #1152 5 months ago
    Quoted from JethroP:

He'll stay as long as he can continue to skim.

Skim to what gain? The guy basically lives like a hermit. Doesn't spend on anything.. only works.. what do you think he's trying to get to?

    Parents are not rational.

I'm probably the least violent person you'd ever meet, never even been in a shoving match, much less a fight. Would fight for my kid if I had to, not just because some old guy yelled at us. But some dads are ready to fight for whatever dumb reason.

I like to fight, and my preferred venue is a museum.

"families" in Chicago and New Jersey

I've often wondered about the same thing, and have discussed that possibility with several Pin Heads over the years. I worked as a tech for a "connected" operator for a couple of years in the early 80's and have noticed some similarities between that operation and what's being discussed here. Hmmm...

My 20-something self would have organized a PHOF race. You must run down all isles and exit the building without one of the rabid staff catching you. That beats playing any pin.

    no spinning!

Surely all the numbers would be public record right, even the amount they donate to the salvation army?

Candid is one of the sites that shows all that: https://beta.candid.org/profile/8633433

That sounds like a drunken dare to me?

    #1161 5 months ago

I like that we've completely given up on trying to "fix" the place, and now just speculate on coin box skimming, Tim's net worth, and when the first actual fight will occur. Progress.

    #1162 5 months ago

Ok so now it's clear to me that Tim is a "hermit" that "skims" off his charitable business that has ties to ""families" in Chicago and NJ"???

Anyone ever think Tim is just a grumpy person that doesn't like people but his passion forces him to deal with people?

    #1163 5 months ago
    Quoted from meSz:

Anyone ever think Tim is just a grumpy person that doesn't like people but his passion forces him to deal with people?

    That's a given.

    #1164 5 months ago

Surely Tim wouldn't allow just anyone to come in early and empty the cash boxes.

    #1165 5 months ago
    Quoted from vid1900:

You guys are all missing the big picture.
Tim LOVES all the complaints from Karens on Trip Adviser.
Tim LOVES the local news asking him about unsupervised mentally ill children.
If a Becky sees "Pinball Hall Of Fame!!!!" in Vegas, they may assume it's a place to release their spawn, like Chuck E Cheese.
When parents look on Google Reviews and every complaint is that feral children get yelled at by a "madman", that should remind them to bring Ritalin, or better yet, go somewhere else.

So when are we getting a “Vid’s Guide: playing and surviving at the PHOF””

As a bar owner I've been assaulted a couple of times. If you think someone's going to face severe consequences for lighting Tim up you are sadly mistaken (unless they have a criminal history). Over two years ago I asked a party bus to leave. One of the party bus patrons brought in their own alcohol and when one of our female staff members asked them to surrender it they did (with protest) but then proceeded to stare down the bartender for the next 5 minutes and mouthed bitch every time she glanced his way. So I'm talking to the senior member of the group (one of the parents) telling him he needs to get the group out of the bar and one of the younger guys came up behind me and punched me in the back of the head. That case is still in the court system. The typical lawyer tactic is to stall the proceedings until it gets settled for some minor infraction.

In my experience you would be surprised by the number of people who would gladly take the one hour of "jail time" it takes to be booked before release and the financial cost because fighting is fun for them and they seek it out. Invariably these people have a huge adrenaline grin as they are cuffed and put in the squad car.

I also don't have a deep video and review history of vocal aggression towards people for the defendants attorney to utilize.

I'm not, in any way, advocating for violence. But, get assaulted a few times by an unruly patron you need to eject certainly has an impact on how you deal with people who you want to alter their behaviour.

I've seen the hour turn around and drop back off to get their car enough that to ensure some consequence I go straight to the camera system and find which car they came from and have it towed immediately.

    #1167 5 months ago

This seems fitting. I have visited the new location 6 times since it's been open and will continue to go back.

Records don’t show income you skim out of the cash box. That’s why arcades and slots were attractive. No per use expenses to highlight missing revenue.

But unless tim secretly likes to swim in quarters… or buried in gold…it seems highly unlikely.

Is your situation a civil or criminal case? The Clark County prosecutor's office is pretty thorough on charging assaults and battery done to those in a business.

Another good example of how not to handle this kind of situation. If you don't like that kind of yelling why do you keep doing it yourself? And bitching about tips... if you rely on tips then you're not charging enough for what you're selling.

The guy could have simply asked that people don't do yell into the mic and been nice about it and kept the beer flowing. Instead he probably had the whole crowd walk out after that rant and they'll definitely not be coming back unless it's to mess with him some more.

Yeah sorry that was unclear, I personally don't think Tim skims quarters. I was just referencing the general financials of the place.

    #1174 5 months ago
    Quoted from canea:

All this actually makes me want to revisit the PHOF now more than ever before its gone.
Watch some toddlers get escorted out. Tempt fate by nudging a game a little too hard or walking a little too fast. Look for the long haired guy, the grey haired lady, the cat(s). Check out the bathroom, maybe get some pics. Buy a tshirt with the quarters saved from not playing pinball circus.
This could really work as the next big Vegas show (or reality TV show). And it's currently a free spectacle.

This is a good idea. I see a different angle on my trip.
    Added people watching.

There’s no easy way for outsiders to assess an all-cash charity operation like this. But it seems pretty irresponsible to throw around accusations of skimming/tax fraud without any evidence.

We’re on more solid ground with “most of his games are broken and he treats his customers like shit. Oh, and his bathrooms suck.”

    10
    #1176 5 months ago
    Quoted from mechslave:

That brings up the question of who actually owns Pinball Circus? Did Tim purchase it from Kordek

It was on loan to the PHOF. After I used it at my Spring 2006 Pinball Circus event, Greg Kemnitz stored it until August. Then he hauled it to the PHOF and while there had dinner with Steve Kordek and his wife.

Some time later someone posted on RGP that Tim told him to enjoy it as it wouldn't be there much longer. Greg contacted Steve and told him we'd move it for him for free. We had the vehicle and equipment and experience moving it.

Steve told Greg he sold it to Tim on a sweetheart deal. Steve's wife had passed, Steve wasn't in the best of health, and his grand kids had no interest in the game. That is when we found out it was no longer on loan.

Steve wanted people to have access to it. We offered to take it to shows and places for him. I'd always wished he'd taken us up on that. Before it went to the PHOF, Steve had no interest it in going there. He must have changed his mind.

I highly doubt Tim is skimming quarters, after all, all of the old games that don’t have token counters are broken and off; and all of the new sterns have electronic audits built in.

I've never met an operator that wasn't a little "loose" with their accounting.

    Quoted from mechslave:

Just thinking, at this point, there may be a better curator for such an important machine, one who can preserve it, keep it cleaned and working. It's WPC based system, doesn't seem like it would be THAT much trouble to keep it running.

It was stored at Larry Demar's company for some time. Pinball Expo borrowed it for the 2005 Pinball Expo. Took it over and plugged it in.

My Pinball Circus event was in April 2006 ( https://www.pinballnews.com/shows/circus2006/index.html ) I borrowed the game for the event. A one day event at that time, on a Saturday.

Greg Kemnitz picked it up in Chicago and brought it to my business late Friday before the event the next day. It had been stored for years, and was at Expo. Looked like it hadn't been shopped in years. We cleaned it up and replaced many of the rotting rubber rings. Got it mostly working.

Saturday night after my event ended at Midnight. Greg, Martin Ayub, Todd Andersen, and me worked on it over eight hours. Completely shopped it, and all new bulbs and rubber rings, and got everything working.

Then Sunday afternoon after I wrapped it all up, Greg took it to his house and stored it until it went to the PHOF in August of 2006.

At the time I borrowed it, it was for the one day event. I asked Steve if people came in and wanted to try it before we got it out of there, Steve said no. We were getting it for the one day only. I kept my word on that.

I wrapped it up and had it ready to move before I opened on Sunday.

People came in wanting to play it. And some got mad when I told them no. It was wrapped and ready to be picked up. I pointed out that I borrowed it, and was only allowed to use it the one day, paid to get it from Chicago to here, and to where it goes next. It was my supplies that went into shopping it. And I never got to play a game on it.

When Greg took it to the PHOF and had dinner with Steve and his wife, Steve told Greg we should have gone ahead and used it. WOW, I wished I'd known that sooner.

Keeping it running would be hard, not impossible. No manual or anything. And we found some differences in wire colors.

And if you want to think of something to brighten your day. Imagine some complete stranger calling Steve Kordek, Larry Demar, and Duncan Brown, and starting with hey, can I borrow the Pinball Circus game ?

I still picture them staring at the phone thinking WTF.

Tim explained it himself. He doesn't understand what autism has to do with his safety rules. This guy is TOTALLY CLUELESS. This is someone's disadvantaged CHILD, allegedly. Assuming the media isn't spinning the story.

If the above is true there may be legal ramifications. I hope regulators audit him as soon as possible.

If I'm concerned about safety and getting sued, the first parents I'm talking to are the ones with the spinning autistic kid. Being handicapped isn't a free pass to get special treatment. If that guy wins anything in court, it's a travesty.

For sure the video lacks context, but I’d also argue the blonde employee’s behavior was not acceptable in nearly any context.

My dad was friends with a couple local police officers when I was growing up. We had a Chuck E Cheese in town. The Police were there on a regular basis and it wasn’t due to problems with kids /teenagers. That’s when I learned the term Mama Bear Syndrome!

One of my buddies used to referee youth sports. He stopped after a few years. He loved working with the kids but got tired of A hole parents fighting which led to the Police being called to games on a regular basis.

Right after I finish my Vid's Guide to Surviving at Burning Man.

"Wait, I paid $600 to get in, and there are no food vendors?? My kids are allergic to gluten."

"So everyone here is a volunteer??? You'd think for $600 they could pay someone to lug my Yeti."

"I came here to get laid, but none of the chicks will look at me. I even wore my red hat."

"I really wanted to like Burning Man, but it rained. One star, will not be back. "

That’s what I was thinking. It’s sorta like those guys not long ago that stole 2 million dimes from the armored truck. It’s a nice haul, but as far as actually being able to spend it there would seem to be a logistics problem there.
