Quoted from beelzeboob:I think it's more about the potential for who will buy the game. Let's be frank here: pinball guys are, for the most part, nerds and geeks. (I proudly count myself among the masses!) Star Wars guys are, as well. Ergo, one would think that--as in a Venn diagram--some portion of both populations would intersect and account for some rather large sales numbers.
There's also the marketing of the title outside the pinball community, which I think JJP did with some success with WOZ. It's a license that appeals to a lot of people, so they're able to try to reel in some people who otherwise wouldn't consider a pinball machine as a purchase.
I'd venture to say that out of all the collectibles markets (I'm talking strictly geek and nerd collectibles), that Star Wars dominates that market.
Disney now owns Star Wars. Star Wars 7-9 ('15, '17, & '19). Star Wars spinoffs ('16 & '18). New shows targeted at kids. Huge Star Wars expansion will be commencing soon at Disney Studios at Disney World. Don't forget the Disney licensing machine. Star Wars will be everywhere come December and will be in our faces for the next 4-5 years.
The only reason I don't own a Star Wars pinball machine is because I don't like any of them.
New Trilogy + Steve Ritchie + Spike System = please take my money.
