Independence Day
Sega, 1996So it's finally happening! I bought an ID4 last year and had it on location up until a few weeks ago when I brought it home to shop it out. At that time I decided it was the perfect platform for a re-theme. I love the layout and shots but most people who've played it know the rule-set is not very deep and gameplay can get old pretty quick, which is sad because the game has really good potential.
So this is what the game looks like as of now:
I have all the hardware in place so I can start coding the machine and test as I go. I'm using a P-roc and MPF to code my custom game and as of yesterday I have the machine flipping which was really exciting for me since I have zero experience with code!
Today my plans are to continue coding the game and work on some of the toys that will be inside. My plan as of now is to create a large haunted house in the upper center of the Play-field where the original bash toy was at. I'm messing around with some foam core right now so I can get an idea of what I want.
Have you thought about keeping the theme and adding exciting rules and modes to it? You could also pick out great clips from the movie and use an lcd monitor in the dmd panel to display instead of the old dmd. Personally I think ID4 is a great theme/movie and there are so many cool clips and sound bytes to grab.

Finding them seems to be the hard part, I don't think they made a ton.

I though about doing just that. The only reason for me doing a custom theme is to learn some new skills. There's a lot of ideas that I have and this platform allows me to put all those ideas to use. But if I ever decide to change the theme back to original, I will do exactly what you suggested!

Only made 1500 which is why it's important to me to keep the origional play-field and cab art protected

The haunted house will play a big role but my wife and I love Tim Burton style artwork and movies so we're going with that feel and trying to come up with a story. Haunted House is one of her favorite pins and thats a reason why that's in there.
