A bridge rectifier is four diodes wired together to convert AC into DC. Use your DMM set to diode position and place leads on the diode and take the reading and then reverse the leads and take the reading. One reading should be open circuit and the other should read .400 to .600. If it reads zero ohms then it's shorted.
