Sounds like it's trying to find where it is, and failing to do so - but only when the machine is cold? So turning it off and back on while hot will not produce the problem?
Does it do it at the point in the boot process where it would normally move the crane to it's rest location?
What kind of switches does that game use to sense the position of the crane? Optos I assume?
