Just saw it in a new IMAX theater and enjoyed it very much. It ends at a logical transition point, or so I think, for a known two-parter. It left me with a much stronger desire to watch the Harkonnens get a taste of desert power than the previous iterations did. I enjoyed the cinematography and the acting and the movie overall. The only significant problem with the music from my perspective is that it was too loud in three places for this 55 year old. Can't comment on how difficult is to follow for a Dune neophyte as I have read the books and seen the previous film/TV versions.

    Quoted from RyanStl:

My biggest gripe is they didn't explain the Mentats and they totally got rid of all the tension that should have been there over Jessica and Hawat. I just didn't connect with the charactors and this would have helped. This is something Lynch did very well. Also, Yueh and the Suks should have been explained. They didn't and the betrayal made little sense because of it.

After reflecting a bit on my one and only viewing, I tend to agree with Ryan. I appreciate what the movie did offer, but the interpersonal complexity was sorely lacking. Rebecca Ferguson and Skarsgaard came closest to breaking through on that count. Still a thumbs up from me.
