I posted this in the DE JP thread but haven't had any posts in response yet...hoping I might have better luck this way.
We haven’t played our JP in about 6 months...was working great when we last shut it off (left it plugged in). When we turned it on, we ran into a strange audio problem, never have had this happen before. This video will demonstrate:
Here is a second video where I run the diagnostics. Sorry, it’s a little long but in summary Voice ROM 2 just clicks. Voice ROM 1 sounds like somebody dying. The music tests work and I can let Music 2 & Music 3 run their whole length but Music 1 will freeze it up like it does at start-up. (Some of the sounds in the background are my son watching Jurassic Park—he figured if he couldn’t play the pinball game, he’d watch the movie.)
After inspecting the Power Supply Board, capacitor at C7 was toast--which, according to the schematics, supplies +5VDC to the sound card. I ordered a new Rottendog power supply board. I have replaced it, no change. I am suspecting that something on the sound board is fried--but I have no way to know for sure.
Things I've done:
Reset all the cables (ribbon, etc), inspected all the Molex connectors (none burned), replaced sound ROMs (U7, U17, and U21 chips), removed and inspected sound card (no evidence of a problem such as leaking capacitor, burned resistor, etc.), new power supply board.
I am totally stuck. Chris Hibler and Clive are several months out (3+ months) for repairs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know that shotgun replacement of boards is not a good idea but, at this point, buying a used, working DE 520-5050-02 seems like the next best thing to do (so if you have one, let me know).
