I've gotten a lot of items shipped over the years, luckily only ever had issues with two items up to now.
Had a prep table delivered with a hole in the box. unboxed it and saw a big ass dent in the front of the prep table. I listed the hole in the box on the form and I guess that was good enough, they picked up the old one and dropped off a new one.

Got a machine yesterday, there was quite a bit of damage to this box. you could actually look into the hole and see the machine, but it looked fine. The difference this time is the guy had an ipad type thing instead of a piece of paper. He took a picture of the hole (with the ipad thing), and noted it. I Signed the ipad thing and then unboxed it to find some dents and scratches on the head of the machine decals, t-molding and back box. called the distro, still waiting to hear back on what they are going to do. The whole ipad thing made me a little uncomfortable.

Had another machine delivered the same day... yesterday, significant damage to the bottom of the box. looked like water had made the box all soggy, so someone taped it up. I annotated this on the paper and the driver freaked out saying "your not supposed to write that on there, your supposed to tell me!". He asked what did you write on there? I told him about the damage and where the hell else was I going to annotate it. luckily this one was fine.

I was always been a little unclear, are you supposed to unbox the item if it did have damage and check it... then it'd be kind of hard to box back up right?
Have a game sitting half way out of the box right now taking up a lot of space in my living room... kinda sucks. Most drivers are cool, but some are in a rush and can be straight up dicks.

After this, I'm going to take my sweet time taking pictures or video of the delivery and if the driver gets pissy about it, I'll just refuse delivery.

IF I was to get a high dollar machine and the box had damage there's no way I wouldn't open the box right then. If it had damage I wouldn't care about a drivers "feelings". He could box it right back up and take it with him. If they want to get pissy, they shouldn't have busted it up.

On the other hand, if they show when they should and do a good job I will slip them a $20 and say thanks.

Usually what I do, if they take the extra steps. Even had one help offload/ unbox and move a pool table in place inside the business, those things are freakin heavy.

The damage that happens or could happen is not usually from a driver but from
the fork truck operators and dock workers trying to rush to get the trailers or box trucks ready for the drivers to deliver the loads of the day.
I've seen drivers terminated for coming back with documented damage on the bill of lading, we document on separate paperwork that gets lost
