Hey all,
Could anyone please provide the contact info for Swemmer MPU help? Have some questions about my Swemmer MPU!
Fred Swemner has passed away ks arcade was the main distributor but they are retired so might be out of luck.
They're similar to originals but not exactly depending on which board you're talking about
Do you have a question about operating your swemmer board, or a problem with it?
Without new swemmer boards being made, there's a coverage gap right now for 80B MPUs

Quoted from mdeslaur:Doesn't applejuice sell replacement 80b boards?
You're right--I'd forgotten about some of the boards he offers
Gotcha! Yeah, I am having a weird issue where my Diamond Lady’s soundboard won’t boot properly when I turn on the game. It will play music with missing sounds. If I manually hit the reset button on the soundboard, she will work great! I am wondering if my Niwumf driver board and Swemmer MPU are compatible? Or, if the clock on my MPU needs to be adjusted?

Does the sound continue to work correctly once you press the reset button?
The soundboard reset signal originates at the MPU and takes a twisty path through many connectors to get to the soundboard.

Yes. The question I’m asking is for how long.

Yes, correct! It’ll work fine until I turn the game off. I guess I should repin connectors on the MPU first? Then maybe replace my aux power board?
I would suspect that the board isn’t receiving the reset signal that originates in the MPU board. Generally this is a connector issue.

I have an idea. Let me work up some instructions. You will need 3 feet of wire.

Well I did repin that large connector, A1j2 I believe? And had no change! But I am opened to your idea!
Oh. Sorry for the radio silence.
I was going to write this out in longer form, but I'll suggest an idea, you take it from there.
Make a connection from A1J2/24 to A6J1/10 however you choose. Jumper with clips, whatever.
This will bypass all of the intermediate connections. See attached pics.
LMK if this works please.

Not a problem at all! Thank you for the help! So doing this will ensure that the reset signal is sent to the sound board?
Quoted from Pinball-DOOD:So doing this will ensure that the reset signal is sent to the sound board?
As ensured as it can be.
This "hack" bypasses perhaps 4 connectors the signal normally passes through.

Okay, will try this! Thank you!

So just to make sure! You meant A1J2, pin 24 to A6P1, pin 10?

Okay, thanks!
Hi! So connecting the two points didn’t seem to do anything. Do you happen to know which connectors are part of that reset line? Might go ahead and repin them! I have already done A1J2. Also, what is your opinion on me getting a new auxiliary board here to see if it solves the issue? Thanks!!
IMG_0430 (resized).jpegDid you make the connection and then power on?
Replacing the board you mentioned will not help a thing. The issue I believe is that the reset signal is not getting from the MPU board to the soundboard. If you connected to the locations I mentioned earlier and then powered up and saw no change then we have to go a different route.

So I was having a little trouble getting the alligator clip into A1J2 since it is so close to the inner wall of the back box. Do you have any suggestions on getting into that connector to make the connection?
You should be able to shove a paper clip into the connector and then attach the alligator clip to it.
Quoted from Brewchap:You should be able to shove a paper clip into the connector and then attach the alligator clip to it.
Good call! Will try this and report back
ChrisHibler Sorry for the delay! The machine is at the Lakehouse so I haven’t got a chance to get to her due to the snow. Will get out there this weekend!
Welp! You are right! I made the connection and it works perfectly! Booted it on and it worked consistently! So what is next? Thank you!!
Quoted from Pinball-DOOD:I have been fooling with this issue for 4 years, wow! So excited! Thanks again, guys!
Chris is the man!

For sure, man! I am stunned! Hahah. We figured out a System 80b!
Well done!
What this “fix” does is bypass several connections as originally designed. You can leave the hack in the game or you can track down which connector is causing the “open” between the two locations you’ve tied together.

Oh okay! Sorry to be trouble but do you happen to know the other connectors? I would love to just repin them! I have already done A1J2!

It’s a bit of a task but you’ll learn quite a bit tracking that signal through the schematics. Enjoy the journey.

Sure, thank you!
It's worth checking out the LISY MPU/driver boards that are open source. I have so many 80B's here I was worried about finding replacement boards for when the time comes, and it turns out you can just have JCLPCB manufacture some for you. I think there's a 5pc minimum per order but it still only came out to a couple hundred bucks. But now my buddy has two MPU/drivers, and I've got three as backup. Worked great in Hollywood Heat when we tested them.
Always better to repair the original, but this may come in handy down the line. Good luck!

That's not the problem. It's appears to be a wiring/connector issue. New boards won't help with that.

Gotcha, more just trying to pass the info on because it took me forever to find out about the LISY's Glad it's an easy fix!
Appreciate the input but yes! We got it at last! That was a 4 year journey
On second thought, might just leave the hack job and clean it up a bit. All that reset line does is reset the sound board on boot up and eh, might be a lot of work hunting down and repinning male and female end connectors. Hey, as long as the game is healthy and operational, I’d say this is a solved case!
Hope this thread is helpful to another system 80b owner! Love them to death but they can be a little funky to work on haha

Mine had all sorts of gremlins until i did the ground mods and updated to a Swemmer board. The original board was clean, but had so many hard to track issues, it wasn't worth the time.
80B's are games you must LOVE to enjoy owning and fixing them.

You had something else going on. Replacing your OEM board with either a Swemmer or a RD is not an update. Neither are manufactured as well as the original. The only real improvement is removal of the daughter card.

Glad i saved it and gave it to the new owner years ago. I do remember that daughter card was a major issue in all the repair threads and wiki's i read.
Quoted from Gundam_Pilot_:If anyone has a working replacement MPU, I would like to buy one for my night moves.
