Using a white card, you can see how dirty it is or isn’t.
Whatever method you use, particularly if using anything abrasive, is to clean up thoroughly with IPA ( Alcohol) or residue left behind sort-of defeats the object of the exercise.
I finally found the issue
Thank you to all pinsiders for helping me out big time on this one. I was very confused.
It was deffently the thermometer stepper unit"advance unit" I got really confused. I thought the advance unit was something totally different and invested all my time in the wrong unit. Anyways, One of the wiper springs was mangled. I fooled around with that spring and made it functional. Pop bumpers work and now the game is set.

As you can see in the pix, one of the springs is funny. I made it functional. If it acts up again, it will get replaced
