i play this more than most of my 20+ game collection. great shots, great play, easy rules, and
put it on novelty for the knocker. makes this a unique gem of a game. play one of the last, and one of the greatest
EM wedgehead gottliebs. : D
if you can't get the ball back to the top, your game is not set up right. there are a couple of indirect shots, but
there are 2 paths from the flipper all the way to the top of the playfield. set it up correctly, play it for a couple
of games, and realize what a great machine this one is to play. for what they had available in the late 70s, this
was a home run. put this next to a modern Led Zepplin or TMNT, and i'll go to Neptune every single time.

Fairly rare AAB game. Great fun to play. Fortunate enough to play it at a friends house.

This game is a pleasure to look at, even with the “fake” digital score reels. Beautiful cabinet, backglass and playfield art really make this game pop. However, I find the game a bit too easy. As a novice player, at the VFW show in Brighton, MI, I had the game up into the 500,000 on ball two, with all the WOWs lit before a machine malfunction forced the game out of operation and had to be shut off. Perhaps the game would provide a bit more challenge on replay, rather than add-a-ball? I would love to own this game based on its rarity alone, however, its lack of challenge is a bit of a downfall.

It may take a few games to get comfortable on this one, but once you figure out the rules and hazardous shots, it can be downright fun. Fully shopped/restored is mandatory, but is a keeper in the high end EM collector's gameroom.

Neptune is one of those low production games that collectors seem to go bananas for.

The Pros:
The art pax is decent.

The Cons:
This game has a crummy layout by John Osborne. Once the ball drops below the top lanes, it never really goes back up there. There are only 3 direct shots in this game. Two satandups (good typo) and 1 saucer on the lower right hand side of the PF. Everything else on this table is an indirect shot. What kind of a pinball table requires indirect shots and nudging skills to be paramount. I'll tell you what kind of a pinball table does that... a bingo. Fake SS #'s on EM score reels are a joke, that wears of really quickly.

The Takeaway:
Only for collectors who look for rare games with low production #'s. Players and people who appreciate pinball as a game will walk on by this after they played it once. If you absolutely have to get a low production Gottlieb game from this era look into Centigrade 37 (and that game is no great shakes to play either).

What a terrible bore fest, the WORST gottlieb of the wedge heads. This game is way to easy, you can play this all night long. Just a total Turd, a pass for me.

Both Neptune and Poseidon are very attractive games in their respective replay and AAB versions. Now, I haven't played either in about 33 years so my memory is a tad vague. I recall that they were both stunning to look at and the black score reels with a digital style character printed on them in red stuck in my mind as unique. This was the very end of EMs and the game never stuck in my mind as overly appealing. Lots of stuff to do, but never a game that made me beg for more. This one really didn't do much for me. I hope to play one again in the USA and will re-judge it then.

Neptune is a blast to play! I prefer the Novelty setting, which allows WOWS to be treated as bonus points rather than adding balls.

This is the only EM machine I have ever played that allowed for million point scoring. The high speed knocker sounds like a machine gun. It is very fast.

It currently ranks as my favorite EM pinball machine. With Novelty play, scoring 1 million points is a worthy goal.

The game uses roll over switches, pop bumpers, stand up targets and a ball captures on a very unique layout. The layout provides a fertile playfield for high speed adrenaline! The Pinball Hall Of Fame has a Neptune for play, and I highly recommend that you give it a try.

Even if the rules appear to be overly simple, and they are simple, the difficulty makes this game incredible. It easily could have been ruined by a misaligned lane or a bad angle stand up target. But the designer's attention to detail enhances the game play. Many shots can be made with a backhand. If you miss a shot, you run the chance of paying for it with your ball.

I'm sure this game would be fun in AAB mode. But in novelty mode, this game is one of the best every made by Gottlieb.
