Quoted from PoBoyPinball:Good luck with that CA is always for the employee (your son) never the employer. I hope you gave him all his breaks and don’t forget his vacation time.
Tell me about it. In my professional capacity, I've been sued because an employee was regularly sleeping on the job and filed a discrimination lawsuit because we disciplined her. Yay.
Quoted from rufessor:We talkin a Flynn sized hole?... cause that’s the next level shit this thread needs.
Quoted from Chosen_S:Grab a shovel, because you’re going to need to dig a basement. Might as well Build the real Flynn’s arcade down there while you’re at it complete with 20’ ceilings and a massive office loft
A Flynn-sized basement situation isn't happening in Pasadena, so Texas is looking pretty good. Do people in Texas like California transplants? Asking for a friend.
I wouldn't stop at just purple-blue. I'd rainbow puke that shiznit up.
Quoted from merccat:Don’t forget his FMLA leave, CFRA leave, PFL leave, PDL leave (i sure hope not), and our newest as if we didn’t already have enough, HWA leave.
Yeah I write hr/payroll software.... did you know that CA even has some special minimum wages (some over 40/hr.) for certain classes. Oy!
Anyway... haha - you’re screwed lol.
If my son needs PDL leave, we have bigger issues.
The carpet is my favorite part of my project...even if it isn't approved for use in California and will probably kill my whole family.
Quoted from zh2oson:Step 8:
Carpet tiles, baby.
So…the cheap-ass tiles that I wanted to buy from Home Depot (this is the 1987 Ford Escort of renovations, remember) can’t be sold to people in California. When did I find this out, you ask?
Great question, imaginary voice in my head!
I found out that the five cases of carpet tiles that I wanted to buy were illegal after logging in to my Home Depot account (which lists my local store) putting everything into my online shopping cart, entering my credit card information, getting my credit card information stolen by Nigerian hackers* and then giving them my shipping address.

Nope!
Home Depot did kindly offer to search local stores to see if anybody had some of these in stock, which was a kind gesture, except for the whole not-legal-here issue.
I did some research** and found that the fibers for this carpet are made from a mixture of nicotine, broken glass, battery acid, lead and asbestos. For $1.19/ sq. ft. I was willing, nay happy, to deal with some potential side effects from this mixture.
Sadly, I’d already bonded with these tiles in a way I haven’t bonded with anything since my unborn child was in utero. I loved the pattern, the color, the magical moisture-wicking properties, etc. We were going to spend years together playing pinball and fixing stuff. I NEEDED THIS CARPT.
So, I did the only thing I could think of – I “muled” them into the state.*** My AP Style Book tells me this isn’t a word, but it should be.
*Probably
**In my mind
***I did not. I found a reasonable facsimile that was Prop 48 (or whatever) approved from another online vendor and paid double what Home Depot would have charged me. Boo.
Quoted from Chosen_S:how to accomplish this??? Super hero strength or Meth... wait a sec, I think I just discovered how you’re going to have the energy to dig that basement
My son gets coffee before he starts working. Anything stronger seems inadvisable.
Quoted from rufessor:I read that in London all the billionaires are excavating downwards to install pools and theaters under these little homes. We are onto something here that should not be ignored and personally, I demand my internet 2c Input on this project.
I think this is fair. I'll get working on it ASAP. Stay tuned.
That's not really "Ford Escort" carpet.
Apparently, you haven't been following this thread for very long.
That's why I'm trying to be be creative with my staffing.
