Quoted from JakeFAttie:And thank god for them.
But I really don't see the appeal of paying an extra 3 grand for...
powder-coated armor (cost to Stern... $200)
a shaker ($50)
a shooter rod ($50)
art blades ($25)
better speaker ($100)
better lights ($50)
a different art package ($0)
manufactured scarcity ($0)
an autograph ($5)
one can easily upgrade a premium for under $1000 and the rest is just autographs and marketing.
But whatever, people collect sneakers too.

I'm a premium guy, and have never gone for a Stern LE although I have had a couple in my house on temp trades or to sell for friends. I like LEs, but for the most part they are not for me. However, I will say that on a few select themes I would absolutlely go all in on an LE knowing that it would be worth it for me and that I'd be keeping it forever.
Weird Al is/was my dream theme. I ordered an LE day 1 and cleared out a bunch of pins to raise funds for it. If it was reliable I'd still have it.
If Stern announced they were making Weird Al tomorrow, I'd be all in on an LE... but thats it as far as LEs go for me.
Everyone has that "dream theme". Some people with the means will go for the LE even if it isn't really worth the money on paper because its something they love. How much money do people have in ports memorabilia, purses, and pokemon cards?
Furthermore, many of the people with LEs just have alot of disposable income. Someone spending LE money may be spending a decade's worth of blow money... or a week's.
I don't shame anyone's pinball purchases. When I first got in I thought people buying NIB Stern Pros at 5k were nuts... why do that when you can get a nice DMD for $2500?
Quoted from JakeFAttie:I sincerely have no opinion on toppers. Not my thing, but at least they aren't part of the pinside top 100 rankings...
I have come to really like them... but they are by no means a requirement. "Why does your pinball machine need a hat?" Because I like it darn it!
