My experiences with Cyclone: Old routed game, the wheel was intermittent. Confirmed and repaired all the connectors and driver transistors. Took out the motor and turned it by hand. Steppers are DC motors w/ very strong magnets, so as you turn the shaft with your fingers you feel the 'cogging' as you move from pole to pole. This makes it hard to determine if there are other sources of resistance/friction. Things like old grease or dirt in the bearings.
I put a couple small drops of teflon oil in the bearings. Put the game together and ran the wheel test overnight. Did this a couple of times. The motor runs great now, but will still occasionally give an error if the basement is cold and the wheel has not been turned in a long time. Software compensates, so I have just been living with it.
