Quoted from MrSanRamon:

I had Aurora Thunderjets in the 60’s and about 10 years ago I bought some Tomy/AFX sets and track. I had a setup in the garage for the grandkids, but they weren’t that enamored with it. So the stuff has been sitting in boxes since.
Now there’s a 6 year old grandkid that played when he came over a couple weeks ago. He enjoyed it a lot, so I’m planning to put a layout on a ping pong table top in the garage. I’m hoping to set up a lift device so I can park my car under it when it’s not being used. When he comes over I can lower the layout onto saw horses and use it.
Interesting to see that others enjoyed slot cars too.

Don’t forget to cover it when stored they can get very dusty.

Yes, I've been thinking of the best cover and I think that it's going to be a bed sheet.

I would think a large roll of plastic ( visqueen) would serve you best. Less likely to get bought on track or track rails.

Started work on the platform. I got a table top ping pong table (no legs) from Walmart.

20240226_120158 (resized).jpg20240226_120158 (resized).jpg

It came in 4 pieces, so I built a frame on the bottom.

I put some inexpensive fake grass on the top and set it on saw horses for support.

I'm waiting for 2 block & tackles, so I can raise the platform up and park under it.

Have the block & tackle installed, still have some adjustments to make.

This thread is a travel back in time. The commercial tracks. The HO scale. All of it!

I had a slot car my Dad bought for me at the track in Ramsey, NJ. The Beatnic Bandit. $8. I thought it was the greatest car ever.

Thank you all for the memories. Enjoy your slots!

#108 58 days ago

Damn. Now you all have me thinking about digging out the old Ninco 1/32 set.

Got a preliminary layout set up.

Nice. I like the pulley/lift system.

We had some Slot car fun over the weekend. Might be the smallest Brad Bowman track ever made. Doubles as the dining room table.

I have quite a bit of lifelike track and was wondering if all HO slot cars will work on this track, mainly the ones from auto world or AFX? Thanks in advance.

Yes, all those cars work on all of the different track.

I did buy a Scalextric Micro car and it had braid instead of hard pick ups. It doesn't work very well on AFX track.

Added a Tyco Turbo Train to the layout.

Haven't had my extensive HO track set up in years, but I still have a big box of track and a few cars.

My brother and I got this set in the late 1970’s. Still has all the original contents but unfortunately it doesn’t work.

I hate to even look at the slot car websites because they are alway releasing cool new cars that I just can’t resist purchasing.

The worst part is if I’m actually going to race the car I feel like I should pick up an extra up in case it gets damaged.

I occasionally set up one or two small tracks at our church. A member of the congregation asked me for advice on setting up a track for the first time. I recommended a small track for starters. This is what he built. 1/24 track, 1/32 cars, digital

Will look forward to what he will do if he decides to “go big”.

That is a Killer track layout! I wish I had space for some of the awesome features that it contains.

No changes from what I posted a few years ago.
It barely fits in a spare 16’ x 14’ bedroom.

Actually he still has several boxes of unused track and if we open sliding doors you get about half that space again.

From my eremeka site, here are 13 machines that appeared in Japanese arcades that I've tagged as slot car...
https://thetastates.com/eremeka/eremekaDisplay.php?search=yes&tag=mechanic+%7E+slot+car&mentionOnly=1
(and yes it includes one railroad machine, I figure they grouped together nicely)

The most recent being 2010 Go Go Grand Prix - ゴーゴーグランプリ by ゲームワックス (Gamewax) & ナムコ (Namco)

I used to race 1/24 scale every Sunday evening for years back in the late 80s. Was so much fun back in the day customizing the cars, advancing the timing in the armatures, bending the chassis to get them as close to ground as possible, and experimenting with different gear ratios.

I have to go into the attic and break those puppies out… Fun times!!

I thought my son would get into slots one day but that never panned out. I do however have a shit load of 1/32 and 1/24 digital with 95% still being new and never ran that I’m going to be selling if any has an interest. They are all Carrera cars.

Pretty much done, except for a bit more scenery.
