If you replace a 4 ohm speaker with an 8 ohm speaker, you will only be able to draw 1/2 of the power from the amp. If it says it will power it with 20 watts @ 4 ohm and you use an 8 ohm speaker, it will only draw 10 watts.
Same principle in reverse. 8 ohm to 4 ohm. 20 watts @ 8 ohm is 40 watts @ 4 ohm. The problem here is the heat. It will create too much heat and burn up the amplifier. Be careful when replacing your speaker. Use the correct ohm replacement. Don't guess! Make sure. It matters!
