I can't ignore the fact that I need a good 3D printer any longer. I don't mind spending 4 to 5 hundred bucks. I'm completely ignorant on which makes, brands, models, etc are good or should be avoided. What's everyone's opinions? What are you using? Can 500 bucks even buy a decent printer? School me fellow pinheads!!

    Thanks everyone! Keep it coming.

    Quoted from dr_nybble:

Does it depend on what kind of things you want to 3D print? (I'm also completely ignorant.)
This looks like a great guide to printing types and materials -- https://formlabs.com/blog/3d-printing-materials/

I'd be printing mostly pinball related stuff. Speaker adapters, standup target brackets, little mods and fixes type stuff.

Is this what you're using? If so, tell me a bit about what you do with it. Is it easy enough to use? Has it been reliable for you?

    Quoted from acedanger:

You'll be fine actually with an Ender 3 with smalls like that. I'm not crazy impressed with Bambu yes it's faster a big print will still take days. Also changing color is tacky because you still need to sand to knock layers down so it's moot. The enclosure & app is incredible but IMO not worth the extra money. I do large to medium sized builds I enjoy doing crazy projects & challenging myself. For really small stuff unfortunately no matter how slow I go it's challenging to dial it in to be smooth & still have strength so for small stuff Resin over FDM.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

AWESOME!! Yeah, I won't be doing stuff like that!

A friend of mine says this is a good deal and would be a great option for what I need. Thoughts??

    Quoted from acedanger:

    That's what I used to build my life-size R2 I'd say yes!!

Well, I'll probably go ahead and order one then. For 200 bucks, it's well below what I expected to pay! Anything I should add on? Any particular brand or style of filament you'd recommend?

    Quoted from dtrimberger:

Before you order do some research on Prusa Printers. Very reliable and you can buy them in kit form which saves you a couple hundred bucks. My impression in 3d printing is you get what you pay for and some of the little stuff (bed leveling, first layer adhesion, slicing software) will drive you nuts if you're constantly having to redo them.
I have a Mk3s+ but will likely be upgrading it to a Mk4 (prusa sells kits to upgrade from one printer to another, kinda pricey though).
I'd love to get the prusa Max but I'm trying to justify it first (this coming from a pinball buyer)

Those sure look nice! But probably more than I need to spend for what I think I'll be doing.

I went ahead and ordered the Ender 3 S1 pictured above along with an 8 color assortment of Esun PLA+ filament recommended above. All said and done for about $400. I thought id be spending that much on the printer alone, so I appreciate everyones input!! Now I just gotta figure out how the hell to use the thing!
