I recently bought my grandpas pinball machine that’s been sitting around since he passed away 10 years ago. This game is priceless to me and I want to restore it the right way.... I’ve attached some pics that I need some help with.

1) I noticed two things that were “unplugged”. What are they for? I plugged one in and I’m assuming the second one is for the coin thing(sorry don’t know the lingo yet).

2) I have all the original paperwork and game cards that came with it. But reading schematics is a foreign language to me. Im trying to find all the 10amp fuses and found 3. Is that all this game has?

3)lightbulbs....I have a few bulbs that are good but they don’t light up. All the green bonus circles at the bottom don’t work but When I test them the bulbs are good.....my question is, if one bulb is bad does that mean that whole section won’t work? They are the screw in bulbs.

I’m sure I will have a lot more questions and thank you in advance. I think I just found my new hobby!!

This is a great game. I have had two of them over the years.
The first plug (3rd picture)is to the coin door. It will start the game (assuming all other connections are correct)
The second plug is to the knocker. Not too difficult to win on this game, but the "knock" is also satisfying.
Good luck with it

Welcome to the world of Pinball!.. You've come to the right place. The peeps here will answer all of your questions and help you all along the way. That game looks beautiful and should clean up nice. Be careful at each step on these older games and not do more damage than good ( thinking of the playfield and backglass mainly), but you'll get there. Enjoy!

Rubber kits and bulbs are all available on line. Just an FYI

Thanks for the responses!! I’m sooo excited. I played this game all through the 80’s and it’s back where it’s suppose to be. My grandpa took pride in this game. He loved it so much and that’s why its priceless to me....I have a 5 and 7 year old and it gives me the excuse to buy more pinball machines!

What’s a knocker?

#7 3 years ago

I googled what a knocker is.... any advice on keeping it plugged in or not.

What’s the best cleaner to use? I’ve only dusted with a microfiber cloth and vacuumed out the bottom.

I just got this 3 days ago so I haven’t done a lot of research. I could just google all my questions obviously but I’d rather ask here.

A knocker is a solenoid that whacks the side of the machine when you get a free
game. They can be quite loud and sometimes people disconnect them.

Concerning the lights, there are two types of lighting circuits; general illumination
which are always on and controlled lamps that turn on when various features
are activated. If you look under the play filed, general illumination lamps
will all be connected together. Often with bare wire.

Its a good idea with older machines like this to take some sand paper
to the solder blob on each bulb and if there is corrosion on the screw
part of the base, spiff that up as well. Over time a layer of non-conductive
crud can collect on these surfaces. Also inspect the button in each socket.
Corrosion (often a white powder) can coat these and it needs to be cleaned
to make good contact.

You may already know this....

ps-beautiful game in great condition!

The bulb circuits are all parallel meaning bulbs are in dependant. If one blows only that bulb will be affected. If none of the bonus lights are working it’s more likely to be a problem with the bonus control rather than the bulbs. You’ll need to look at the bonus Selector unit and the trigger relays (as well as the play field switches that trigger it). You’ll need to get and learn how to use a volt/ohm meter pretty quick as that will be your friend. Good luck, the game looks fab.

Now I messed something up. I had the glass off and was testing all the lights and the bonus trigger came on and wouldn’t stop trying to dump a ball. I had to unplug it and now it says tilt.

This wouldn’t stop spinning until I unplugged it.

Now what?

I’m going the store now to pick up a volt meter.

Well found it. It’s barely visible but I did find the faded markings for the schematics.... I’ve learned a lot tonight.

It’s still stuck in tilt and I’m just frustrated. I spent 2 hours reading the em pinrepair but I can’t figure it out and I can’t find anything on this exact game or 1948 games.

As frustrated as I am, I’m all in on my new hobby!

Congrats! What a great game and back story.

I really, really, really recommend that you read the information on the Pinrepair.com link posted above before proceeding too much further. Learn what to do and what not to do.

This forum is littered with posts from first timers who think they’re doing the right thing and end up making things worse. A lot of times big problems and game malfunctions can be caused by just one switch that is out of adjustment.

I would also consider getting the game fully working before “restoring” it. Again, lots of projects for sale from people who have big ideas of restoring a game and end up with a half finished project.

Don’t mean to be a downer, just wanted to give you some modest advice. You’ve got a great game and you’ll have a lot of fun getting it going again if you take your time!

Good luck!

Thank you all for your input. Gotemwill- I will definitely get everything working first than I will start the restore process. Thanks for
The advice.

Very nice original game - even has the original coin box, which is super rare.

Does not look like it needs any restoring.

Just wax the playfield and new rubbers.

Remember the enemy of good is better.

Looking for a replay projector disk. I’m assuming the disk is not suppose to be warped?’
