This game is ok especially if you're into The Lord of the Rings, which I am. However I find the callouts annoying after a short time and although I'm not religious, the collecting souls aspect bothers me somehow. The Balrog toy in the middle of the playfield is just too big and easy to hit for my taste, and the character figures on the playfield look like bad home mods. The upper left mini playfield just seems to be mostly luck. But to each his own. Many people love this pin - it's just not my cup of tea.

I've played this one a couple dozen times. Although it has some great toys -I love the pop-up trolls, it seems a bit repetitive to me. You can only blast the castle so many times before it becomes boring. Maybe I didn't give it enough time to really appreciate the depth of the rules though. If I get a chance to play it some more and find it more challenging, Ill change my rating.

I had the please playing this gem on a recent visit to Chicago. Not too many toys clutter up the playfield and a nice layout makes for very fast ball movement that trains your reflexes. There are plenty of difficult shots and stuff to keep you entertained. Too bad I don't have that machine anywhere in my n'hood.
I would call this game underrated because it suits my style of play. Good flow, non-stop fast and furious fun.

One of the prettiest games ever made. I had the pleasure playing one of those machines on a recent visit to Chicago. It could have been all that and then some but is isn't. The game play is somewhat uninspiring. The pop bumper after the ball drains one the left lane is a complete waste and somewhat symptomatic of the entire layout. No real game flow or much of a strategy. Too bad I really love to look at this game since it looks very impressive.

Updated better review;

IMO, this is the premier collectible pinball machine from the EM era. It's got a lot of great features, and looks cool as hell as well.

Here is how it works:

Starting off, it's got a very important skill shot. If you want to be competitive in multiplayer, you'll need to master this shot. Not only can you score 3000 points, you'll light the pop bumpers for 100 points, rather than 10.

Adding a huge amount of randomization to the game is the large rubber disk in the center of the playfield that relentlessly spins. The ball will hang on this disk and stutter, before being shot off in an unpredictable direction. FIREBALL!

There are rollover targets surrounding the disk. Most score 10 points, but the top center rollover activates a kickback on the left out lane. Unfortunately, two of the other rollovers turn the kickback off. One of them happens to be right in the path of the left out lane, which means odds are good that the ball will disable the kickback while heading toward the out lane.

There are two ball locks representing the fire gods. Odin on the left, and Wotan on the right. Putting a ball in either saucer puts a new ball in the shooter lane.

Locking the ball in the Odin saucer starts a chasing sequence of 5 insert lights below the saucer. These lights are labeled 1000-5000 points, and change quickly. To release this ball, you need to hit the mushroom target on the left side of the table. When the ball is released, you score the point total reflected by the currently lit insert light. Timing is key. Releasing Odin for 5k points is a blast.

The Wotan lock on the right sits behind a gate, with three insert lamps in front of it. These inserts will illuminate as you collect hits on the three Mushroom targets, one lamp for each target. After locking a ball in Wotan, you can release it by hitting the mushroom target on the left. The ball will roll down a lane with three switches in it. The switches will score 1000 points each, corresponding to the number of mushroom targets that were hit before the lock and release (up to 3000 points).

You can also release one or both of the locked balls by a solid shot to the captive ball. If you release by captive ball, the Wotan ball will not return to play, but instead will be dropped back into the shooter lane, allowing you to plunge again to try for a bonus skill shot.

The last feature are the zipper flippers, which are activated by the mushroom target at the top of the playfield. Zipper flippers are a mechanism that move the flippers together in order to minimize the likelihood of a center drain. The flippers will remain zipped until either of the outer mushroom targets are hit.

I love this game.

The EM that plays like a Solid State.

It's the most fun you can have without a computer! ;)

I own a Pro and have become tired of it. I had the opportunity to try out the LE and wasn't overly impressed with the differences. I find the lighting to be a bit overwhelming and distracting at times ( the laser show is interesting ). The fake asteroids are horrible looking. The Prem/LE has much better artwork than the pro but I'm not sure it makes it worth the extra cost.

I waited to rate this one until I had a chance to play the crap out of it because I love Pinball and Love Austin Powers so I didn't want to give it high rating based on just that. This game is fast with a ton of shots. The multiball modes are awesome and they are challenging to complete. A lot of people think that they are completed just by starting the mode, this is simply not true. If you don't complete the mode it looks like it is complete but its not, you can restart the mode and finish the uncompleted shots. Once this is done you receive groovy points every time you hit that shot in regular game play. There are a lot of toys and the ramps are really cool. Music is awesome. You can change to family mode or Adult which is cool, it's hilarious. I will admit when I first played this game I was pumped to play it and the one I played sucked! Weak flippers, stuff was broken, playfield looked like junk and I was disappointed. But when I played a nice one I was hooked. This game has and will last forever in my collection! It took me a while to find one in excellent shape and it has not disappointed. I drove 5 and half hours (11 Hour Round Trip) to go get this machine on my MOMs birthday! Don't worry I still made it back for Cake and Ice Cream! Remember I am a huge Powers fan and that makes it that much better. Also, Good luck finding one....and when you do they are pretty beat. To give this game the rating it deserves ( like a lot of games) first play one that is in good shape and 100% working.

Had Police Force for a couple of months now. Rule set is weak with lop-sided scoring. Inner ramp unlimited millions out weighs all other shots. I have changed the difficulty setting to very hard and it's made the game far better as the inner ramp takes 8 loops before accruing the unlimited millions and makes for much fairer gameplay. Back glass is very well done and the police light topper is neat. Multiball is difficult to obtain compared to other pins of this Era. Cop and bad guy comments over and over get tiring fast Overall though a decent pin when set to very hard.

I really did not care for this game at first. I used to be a fan of Metallica, they were huge in the Late 80's and early 90's. After playing a dozen games I started to understand the strategy and which shots to prioritize. It is awesome once the multiball shots become mastered. Also an excellent return from the ramps for continuous shots! Plenty of songs to choose from, although it should not be long until Stern updates with more. Stern?? Trying to master the CIU takes some time. Plenty more there after the code upgrade. Reaching end of the line takes some extreme focus and extra balls! Mods are neat for this game. Colored LEDS really enhance. Adrenaline-fueled awesomeness!

I have left rating comments four the pro version. This game is just a more exceptional version of the pro. the cool effects with the grave stone and the hammer. Even the snake has improved. It's one of those games that just has "wow factor" and makes you want to have it in your collection.

This is the most frustrating pin I have ever played. No way I could ever own this title. My buddy got one and sold it in 3 weeks. They usually have lots of opto issues, so if you buy one make sure they all work.

Super fast, challenging machine. The combo scoring and jackpot scoring are great. I like that the songs relate the game play which is different than Metallica. With a bell mod this game becomes even better. I don't miss the lower playfield, but I do prefer the drop targets of the Premium vs. stand-ups in the Pro. Overall, very fun and addictive - this game rocks!!

I absolutely love this game. So much awesomeness packed into that little playfield. Excellent multiplayer game. This is my favorite 2nd favorite Lawlor title. The game carries a lot of variation as the golf courses change daily. I've noticed if you wait and watch the credits roll thru it'll tell you which course it is on for that day. This means that different pars for different holes and the drive shots are in different locations. There are so many modes in this game and it always seems to be some randomly different. In this game is by no means and easy win. Very challenging to get to the end, then playing the back nine. Overall, a phenomenal ruleset. Its funny getting insulted by the Gophers but beating them up is sweet revenge! Bud and Buzz! Ha

This game is much better than it gets credit for, there is a ton going on, the movie was so so, but they did a great job with the theme on this one, lots of ramps, and challenges in the game, oversized DMD, fast, and just a fun game to play, with easy to understand rules, it is great for beginners and a challenge to beat for seasoned players, best Sega ever, and deserves more credit than it gets, I can see a point where this game is 5K to get one..

This game is already "under-rated" - don't believe the naysayers, this game ROCKS. It's fast with many satisfying shots. As the code evolves, expect this baby to rise into the top tier of games. Right now, the artwork alone may be the best in recent history. Lick it up!

Target Pool. Wow. When properly shopped and dialed in right, this is one wicked two inch flipper wedgehead. Great rules that have been gone over before by other reviewers. Never mind the other reviews saying that it's tough to reach the top part of the playfield. With a waxed playfield and high tapped flippers I had no problem reaching the upper area. The "bong, bong, bong" from hitting a lit arrow target and scoring 300 points is intoxicating. The only thing that brings it down for me is the so so artwork. It reminds me of those Highlights Magazines I saw as a kid in the dentist's office. Otherwise a top notch Ed Krynski design and not too easy to find in nice shape.

This is a fun machine that has a few things that hold it back from being top tier. While a bit odd, the saving the planet theme really isn't too much of a stretch for Popeye. The hand drawn art on the cabinet and playfield is good. As with many Python games, there are lots of little humorous details that can be found upon closer inspection. I like the integration different characters like Popeye, Bluto, Olive, and Wimpy in the artwork and call outs. The music is decent during the main game and during the multi-ball. However, the somber tunes that play during modes are a little lackluster. There is a ton of content in the dots and the DMD animations are great overall.

The game is fairly deep and there are a handful of tasks and modes that have to be completed to get to the very satisfying 6 ball "Save Olive" wizard mode. The loop shots are fun and the game offers several multi-ball modes to work for. On the negative side, the upper playfield takes up a bunch of valuable playfield space and would have really benefited from some other shots or drop targets to hit. The skillshot wheel is an interesting idea, but a bit too easy to get exactly what you want every time once you learn it. There are some visibility issues since the upper playfield partially obscures the pop bumpers and the animal ramp partially covers the left outlane.

Overall, Popeye is an enjoyable game that's much more fun than many ratings I've read would suggest. I grew up with Popeye cartoons, which makes the overall package more appealing to me. Popeye is a game that has flaws, but it features a deep ruleset, good callouts, lots of interesting shots, and great DMD animations.

I've owned this game for over a year now but only recently got it running. Its a very nice low plays HOU example. Its still got all the original capcom parts in it and nice and tight. Basically plays about as good as it can get (I just put all new rubbers on as well). So what do I think of the game? Its very good, if not excellent!

Gameplay: Everybody complains about the linear nature of the game, which is true to some extent although it doesn't bug me very much. With so many tricks to complete its very difficult to actually get through them all, like REALLY hard. Yeah I wish it had a little more variety but its good and shouldn't steer you away from the game.

The flippers are very snappy and feel great. The shots are nice and smooth and satisfying. The loop is super fast both ways, and the ramp is a fun shot when you see the ball ride the wand or even when it diverts the ball to the other side. Speaking of the wand, its awesome! This game has amazing toys. The levitating ball is one of the coolest toys in pinball if you ask me. Overall a really fun game to play, I think it deserves a higher rating than it has, but don't expect the best game of all time either. Also its worth mentioning that this game has awesome lighting effects! Some modes are dark, some modes are dazzling, and some of the tricks the game can do with the lights are downright amazing. A+ for lighting effects!

Sound:
The speakers in this game crank! Really good sound quality and a ton of bass! As for the music itself, its allright. I think its one of the weaker spots in the game personally. The main music score is dark and brooding. Its not annoying and it goes with the theme, but its just ok. It does its job without being a nuisance but its nothing catchy or memorable. Theres not a lot of other music in the game which is unfortunate. I do really like the rag time song it plays in certain modes however! General sound effects are very good however!

Art: Yes, sadly there is a lot of blank red open space on the playfield. Kind of boring and a let down. The art that is there however, is really cool. I think the faces are only average but everything else looks awesome. Plus theres some really cool stuff hidden away. There's a guy pooping out swords in the upper right hand corner!! I also like the little guy running off with the plans for pinball magic who might just be reporting back to "big bad willie" (williams). The game is really chock full of little easter eggs like that which is super cool I think, and IMO makes up for quite a bit of the space left artless.

Overall, this game is excellent. I highly recommend spending some time with one! You'll have a good time and its a different experience than you get with any other brand of machine. Its too bad Capcom's time in the pinball market was so short!

Star Trek flows like butter, I doubt you will find a game with better flow, beautiful to look at , the modes all feel very similar, I know this is a good table, but for some reason I really cant get into it, maybe its the theme coz im far from a trekie .
