1980 Gottlieb Amazing Spider-Man for Sale! This is a holy grail collectible for Spider-Man fans. I have always been drawn to the cabinet (including back glass) and playfield artwork. Unfortunately, I am also being drawn to newer pins, and there just isn’t enough space in my home to keep this classic.

This item is for pickup only. You can hire a moving company (STI Beltman, NAVL, etc.) and I’ll make sure to be home for the pickup.

Here is my maintenance list from this past year:

Adjusted all non-working switches. All switches now working!

Replaced all 8 drop targets.

Cut new plastic lift channel and trim for new back glass. Installed new back glass.

Newer Rottendog MPU

Replaced light box and playfield incandescent with LED’s.

Replaced burned-out incandescent bulbs underneath playfield with new incandescent bulbs.

Replaced all rubbers, including flippers and shooter rod tip.

Added spare Ground and +5VDC wires to interconnect harness.
Replaced original orange filter capacitor with a new Richey 12,000 uf 25V (including new mounting bracket).

Cleaned all Driver Board edge contacts using a pink eraser.

Recharged all displays using a 9-volt battery and alligator clips.

Added locks to coin door and backbox.

Thoroughly cleaned playfield by vacuuming and Naphtha.

Cleaned all plastic posts in simple green solution. Cleaned all playfield screws, nuts, and washers using walnut media in a harbor freight 5 lb tumbler.

Repinned A1-J6 (19-pin), A1J5, A3J2, A3J5, A6J1, A1J6(5), A3J1(B bar = Sound 1), A3J3(C bar = Shoot Again Lamp), A1J2 and A1J3.

Cleaned all removable chips and the sockets. Tested all dip switches and associated diodes.

Replaced coil sleeve, coil stop, and springs for all four flippers.

Replaced transistor NPN6043 at Q53 driver board with new NTE261.

Installed new coil at knocker assembly (not shown in pics).

Added playfield protector.

Items to note:

Cabinet is in decent condition with expected scrapes/scratches/dings. There are some touchups in the RED and BLUE letters than can be seen when looking in certain angle and lighting. I also noticed some small spots of silver/gray paint in areas that were bare wood. Overall, it looks good.

Playfield has a thin layer of clear coat to preserve or lock-in the paint. Otherwise, this playfield would have further paint loss due to age and condition. Also, there is some ball swirl (mostly noticed in high traffic areas such as lower center of playfield – See MJ’s face. The clear coupled with Playfield Protector has held up great! No more paint loss or dimpling, not that it would matter to some folks looking for a Player’s Pin.

(please request video link if interested)

The backbox/lightboard can be a little challenging to open. First, you insert the key to rotate (unlock) the lock bar assembly. Next, you place your right hand firmly below the light board at bottom right corner and left hand on the metal handle (lower left of board). Lift with some force to engage the top hinge. Then, slowly rotate the lightboard outwards. It takes getting used to, but it’s not a big deal...just a quirk.

There is a Free-Play Jumper at Diode Board, between Credit Wire and Middle Coin Chute Wire.

Spare Parts (Negotiable Items as Extras - only selling/adding Original Backglass and MPU once entire game sells due to collectors possibly wanting all original parts):

2 extra fluorescent vacuum displays. One is fully working as a spare. The other is working except for the first (right-most) digit. It probably just needs to have a board trace reflowed per visual inspection.

The original MPU along with spare replacement caps/chips and more for repair. The board was cleaned of battery acid using vinegar solution followed by soap/water…and completely dried. Unfortunately, I never got around to this project, and it is untested. This is in case you are interested in having all original parts.

The original back glass. I used Krylon Triple thick to preserve the remaining artwork. This is in case you are interested in having all original parts.

4 new replacement coils and plungers. They were not necessary, but I purchased the flipper rebuild kit for other parts such as springs, coil sleeves, and coil stops.

I have extra pin contacts and housings for the connectors.

2 extra spidey bumper caps (brand new and never used).

Please let me know if you have any questions! I try to include as much information as possible.
