Selling my Williams Black Knight game number 500 from 1980.
It plays really fast and takes patience and concentration to get a good score. It is tempting to just keep the ball going trying to hit drop targets before the timer resets them or go for the ramps but you need to learn the flips, stop the ball sometimes, and pick your shots. Getting three complete left and right drop target banks to light the extra ball and then going through the spinner and up the left ramp to collect the extra ball and bell is very rewarding! The multi-ball light show is fun too. Over all it is very fun, and very frustrating... Just how it should be! A true work of art by Steve Ritchie back in the day.
All of the playfield general illumination is Comet Sunlight LEDs and all of the inserts are color-matched Comet LEDs, with only two purples thrown in for the 3x and 4x jewels in the guard of the sword. All of the inserts have been cleaned on the inside. All connectors on the CPU & driver boards have had the solder reflowed and connectors cleaned. Fuses have been installed inline with the bridge rectifiers. The backbox has all new 44 bulbs - the LEDs were too bright and caused too much glare on the playfield glass. The drop target mechs have all been disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled with new coil sleeves and stickers. The flipper mechs have all been upgraded to the later Williams Fliptronics style with new end-of-stroke switches, coils, and sleeves. The playfield has been cleaned and waxed, new rubber installed, plastics cleaned and polished, the spinner lightly lubricated, and Cliffy Protectors installed on the upper and lower kick-outs.
The sound works great, including Black Knight laughing at you when you loose the ball past a Magnasave to drop down the out lane.
There are two points of wear on the playfield; one in the middle of the right magna~save, and another in front of the upper multi-ball kick-out. These could be easily repaired by someone with the skills. The playfield has some "planking" in the lower part of the playfield in the high-traffic area above the flippers. The back glass has the normal crazing and cracking for this title but it is stable and not falling off. I looked into a new backglass but the extra money for something cosmetic was not worth it to me. Same with two of the plastics that have cracks in them.
