Up for sale is a Spirit of 76 that has been torn down almost completely, and gone through with a fine tooth comb, restoring almost everything along the way. Lots of stuff was done to restore as many of the original parts as possible. Here's a partial list of what was done:
-The playfield was completely stripped, cleaned, and polished, and had a number of touch ups painted through out. This included the proverbial kickout wear which was repainted and now has a custom cut mylar protector over that whole lower area.
-Every piece of metal on the playfield was cleaned, buffed, and polished out to a nice full glossy finish.
-New mylar was added under the pops.
-Every switch contact was addressed, cleaned, and adjusted including the score motor and player unit. Game plays 100% now. (When I got it, it was a non-running mess!)
-Almost every playfield insert was removed and reglued back into place. This was done as some were loose but also to help level them back with the playfield and to repaint their edges.
-Every score reel was completely disassembled, cleaned(including all contacts), confirmed to work 100% then reassembled.
-Every switch stack on the bottom board was also individually addressed and fixed according to the schematic.
-All new plastics.
-All new rubbers.
-A myriad of paperwork is included, schematics, score cards, and some other stuff.
-New Comet RetroSMD LEDs throughout. Some clear and some frosted. Not in every spot though. In some places, the incandescents either looked better or produced more full light. All the GI is LED, though.
-Flippers, coin entry plates, and a few other white plastics were retrobrighted back to a nice factory fresh white.
-New star posts throughout.
-Backglass is in terrific condition. Only a couple tiny spots that can easily be touched up if the new owner wants to do it. I chose to leave it since they're barely noticeable.
I call this a "sympathetic restoration" because I wanted to use/keep/restore as many of the original parts as possible. If you've ever seen the British show The Repair Shop, you know what I mean. It's not a full restoration also because I didn't touch the cabinet, outside of a simple cleaning. I think the cabinet is in fantastic shape for its age and prefer its originality over a fresh paint job.
The game plays really well. The flippers are nice and strong, too. I've included a bunch of pictures with a few of some of the condition of how I got the game, the playfield completely stripped, and lots of the finished product. I'm really happy with how the game turned out, considering the condition I got it in. I'm very happy to have given this game a new lease on life. Now it's ready to go to a new home!
Cash on glass is preferred, but may also consider Zelle. Game is on ground floor, easy in and out. Will consider delivery within a certain area, contact me to discuss.
