Item description

For Sale: A very clean, and fully working, example of one of the iconic classic Sterns - STARS! A full tear-down, bulletproofing, and shop job, was just completed - the game looks great, and plays 100%.

A cash sale is preferred; however, I am looking for a RBION and a WH2O. If you have either, and would like to work this Stars in as a partial trade-credit in a deal, I would be open to discussing it.

Details of the work is as follows:

• SOLENOID DRIVER BOARD: The two electrolytic filter capacitors were replaced w/new, the recommended ground modifications completed, and all connector pins were inspected and re-flowed as-needed.

• MPU: When I originally found it, this game was completely dead from battery leakage/alkaline corrosion. I would have loved to save the original MPU; however, Stern PCB's simply aren't of the same quality as the old Bally's, and there were so many lifted traces and questionable sockets from the corrosion, the board would have turned into a real hack job by the time I had it retraced and booting again. A brand new Barakandl (NVRAM Weebly) MPU was installed as a replacement.
The new board came with an NVRAM pre-installed, and is equipped with a well needed free-play setting.

• LAMP DRIVER: All connector pins were inspected and re-flowed as-needed.

• DISPLAYS: All connector pins were inspected and re-flowed as-needed. The original displays are bright and clear, and the voltage at which they run has been reduced to preserve them during future use.

• SHOP JOB: Details of the general shop-work completed is as follows:

- All playfield & backbox GI lighting was replaced with new cool/natural white Comet LED's (feature lights still incandescent);

- Complete top-side tear-down;

- Playfield cleaned, polished, and waxed;

- All playfield rubbers were replaced with a new set of Orange Titan silicone;

- All rubber post-cap push retainers replaced with new White Titan silicone caps;

- Both under playfield drop target assemblies were removed, dissembled, and cleaned. All 6 targets were replaced with new game-correct reproductions;

- A new, game correct, pop bumper cap was installed;

- New, original style, "Credit Button" and "Stern" decals were applied to the coin door;

- New pinball installed; and

Please review the pictures closely for additional condition details, and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, or if you would like to see additional photos of a specific area. The original playfield has great color and shows very well. It has next to no center-playfield insert wear, or planking, which is so common on this title.
The original mirrored backglass is very-nice, stable, and without flaking or any major flaws (awesome art on this game!). The cabinet shows very nice, but does have a few historic touch ups and some planking on the front face. The cabinet is very solid and doesn't appear to have ever been abused, or exposed to moisture or a bad storage environment. It is about as solid and clean as they come for a game of this age. The only real negative needing called out, as it may not be apparent in the photos, is that the backbox wiring harness was once cut (presumably to remove the head) on this game. This was repaired long before my ownership, and the wires were all twisted together and soldered - so it was done correctly (or the best you could do), and should never give a future owner any issues.

The game is located in Central Pennsylvania, just off I-99. Pickup is highly preferred, but shipping is all-good too as long as the buyer makes all the arraignments, and payment-in-full has cleared my account before the game leaves my possession.

IN REGARD TO THE CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC: This pin is currently located in my clean, dry, and climate controlled man-cave. If a meaningful deposit is received, you're more than welcome to leave it there until such a time when you are comfortable picking it up. In that scenario, I do reserve the right to at least one or two games a week though! If you would like to get it into your lineup ASAP, I am open to a pickup anytime, and we can easily abide by all of the recommended practices for interaction. You can drive right into the building and almost right up to your new machine. I have all the lifts/dolly's/carts needed to make loading it a breeze. I will leave it as you're call, and I will respect and accommodate what ever you decide.
