Since July I have been working on this Shadow restore on nights & weekends.

I repainted the cabinet, installed new head decals, touched up the main cabinet decals, added new Bally labels. Added an alt translite. Polished side rails and lock down bar, installed new beer seal. New flipper buttons.

I have replaced all the coil sleeves, rebuilt all 3 flippers and the ball lock mech which basically was like a flipper rebuild. Cleaned and polished all the metals including coil metals. I do like Flitz. Rebuilt the brick wall with new brick wall and pivot arm assembly. Rebuilt the single drop target with new yellow drop. Replaced the smaller targets, hand cleaned and polished the larger yellow targets and Battlefield drops then created some custom decals. Stripped the playfield, cleaned it and buffed it with several coats of carnuba. Replaced all three ball lock switches and other switches as needed. Put in LEDs, cool white in front, blue in back left and rear of playfield and red under right diverter. Added cityscape on right back panel. New purple flasher covers and purple flashers in cityscape panel. New CPR playfield plastics, new clear posts, clear is actually what the manual calls out, like them better than red. New flipper bats, new Titan rubbers and colored rubbers. Same treatment to mini playfield with a new yellow kicker installed and new optos.

There is a screw pop that I fixed by the left sling.

Repainted and mod podge cleared the gun.

Powder coating of the wire forms gold.

Art deco rework of inner sanctum area. New phurbas on top of diverters, repainted and/or replaced mongol figures, new diverter decals. Replaced all Shadow ring bulbs. Clear plastic washers under sling plastics and other plastics as needed.

Reinforced that thin plastic that the ball drops on from the Battlefield with mylar covering top & underneath and a custom piece of Lexan. Replaced that clear plastic rectangle piece with a slightly larger piece of Lexan and mylar’d over that plastic too.

Newest LH-6 ROM installed. New playfield glass.

I ran Shadow through all the tests and everything tests correctly. Then I played a bunch of games on it. As a note, the sanctum magnet will some times throw it back into the sanctum and some times it will just release it. Based on some research, it looks like this is rather common and can be related to pitch and even magnet release and opto timing. Other Shadows I have played have exhibited this behavior as well. I also tested the rebuilt brick wall mech manually and all switches and coils test correctly. Also, the sanctum optos test correctly. All three switches in the ball lock test correctly. Shadow multiball starts as expected as well as all other multiballs and modes.

Both diverters and their switches work great. The one switch on the left diverter that can have issues with a bounce was replaced with a different switch and the bounce can no longer create a switch miss, so that switch registers every time, better than factory.

The new Battlefield kicker works great.

Overall, the game plays superb & fast. Upgraded LEDs and flashers add to it.
