I've enjoyed watching Monster Bash hold its own over the years, now sitting at#6 on Pinside's Top 100 machines list. I was fortunate to acquire mine from an individual collector in 2002, where it's maintained a place of honor in my personal collection ever since. Monster Bash is often the machine that my friends and their kids that are new to pinball will switch on first when they come over, because the theme is more accessible and the game play is easier to grasp than on many newer games.
I have made a number of key upgrades to it over the years. Early on, I added Pinball Pro's backbox speakers and subwoofer, upgraded the ROM to version 1.06, and installed a scoop protector and a new lagoon plastic.
More recently, I replaced the batteries with an NVRAM module, installed new ribbon cables, replaced the Frankenstein table with a new one, installed flipper button protectors, upgraded the playfield lighting to LEDs, and added a Monsters of Rock color-changing LED.
I also purchased a complete set of new playfield plastics (see last photo), which I am including with the game along with a printed copy of its manual, if you want to make further improvements to it. I'm in the process of installing a new side rail on the right side to replace the original one with two dimples in it (see photo).
The game looks beautiful, plays fast and smoothly with no credit dot or mechanical problems, and sounds terrific. The circuit boards are clean (see photos). If you want the machine to be perfect, here are two places to focus:
The playfield is generally clean and smooth for its age except along the Drac Trac, where there are a couple small spots of wear (see photos) that are common on this game.
I've regularly replaced rubbers and lamps in all readily accessible parts of the machine, but haven't disassembled it completely to shop the most difficult to reach corners of the game beneath ramps.
This machine would be a great option for someone who wants a lower price and less waiting time than getting a remake, or would prefer to have one of the authentic originals. I'm not seeking a trade, but rather want to sell the game to someone who would appreciate and care for it as much as I have, so I can free up some space. Happy to sell cash on glass to a buyer in the area or can ship as needed at buyer's expense.
