I visited the Flippermuseum in Schwerin during a recent trip to Hamburg in October 2013. It's about an hour away from Hamburg by train and the museum itself is about 20 minutes walk from Schwerin's main station.
The museum is in an unusual residential location in a very unsuspecting low-rise tower block. You'd walk right past it without noticing if you didn't know exactly where it was. Inside it's maze of themed small rooms, each containing 5 to 10 pinball machines. Themes include Space, Gambling, 60s, Adventure and Fantasy, Motors and a Gottlieb tribute room.
All the machines are in very well kept order. Not all of them are available to play either due to pending maintenance or possibly rarity, e.g., Atari "TIME 2000", but those that playable are all on free-play. Some machines need topping up with credits as they are too old to have a built-in free-play mode (you'll have to ask but be prepared to speak German!).
Some of the machines have undergone an immaculate restoration. Their crowning glory has to be Gottlieb's "Q*BERT'S QUEST". This pin is simply stunning to look at! The only machine I played that had a fault was the enormous Atari "HERCULES" whose pop bumpers weren't working.
They had some very old wooden and wood-rail pins in a proper non-playable "museum" history room and there were lots of illuminated backglasses and information mounted on the walls everywhere. There's also a small cafe but I was too busy playing to sample the coffee, beer and cake on offer.
Overall, the Flippermuseum Schwerin is an absolutely brilliant place! If you're into pinballs from the 70s and 80s you'll be in heaven and the 90s are well catered for too. Nice to play so many EMs as well. I wish it was near me in the UK as I'd be there every weekend. Admission is a bargain at 8€ (£6.75 GBP, $11.00 USD) for adults and 3€ (£2.50 GBP, $4.00 USD) for children. The only fault I can find is it isn't open much: only Friday evenings 8pm-11pm and Sundays 2pm-6pm.
The collection changes over time but here's what I spotted on my day:
