I have had my Wolverine for about 3 weeks now and I did not want to rate this game until I had 200-300 games on it. My first impression was awe. The game is beautiful. The artwork on the cabinet, backglass and playfield are all 10's. The lighting is the best on any game ever created. Nobody can make an argument against that. The animations and call outs are great and the game follows the real relationships of the X-men.
The awe ended after about 10 plays, however, as I realized that the code was very incomplete and then I figured out my Wolvie was not registering and Magneto had an issue. I was really down on the game.
Then, I got the issues fixed and played another 100 games trying to figure out the rules. The game really grew on me. The rules, although incomplete, border on genius. First, gather your X-Men. Second, battle Magneto multi-ball. Third, complete the powers of your X-Men. Next, battle the villains. Finally, participate in the ultimate battle. It is great rules that get us to play a game over and over. That is the definition of a great game. Do I WANT to play it again and again? Is it fun? Do I want to finish the game?
The answer here is yes, yes and yes!

The good: This is a really fun game. the magnets are great and the spinning disk is great. makes the game fast but not stupid unfun fast. The dots animations are amazing like old Williams ones. There are so many characters and modes. This game will have longevity. Get Nightcrawlers all the time now.. This is a fun easy mode. Love all the shots from the 3rd flipper. I like the ice ramp and enjoy the transformation of the playfield. I like all the ways to lock balls in Magneto. this is cool. Shots are all tight, except Wolverine, but not impossible. Seems like a really deep, but fun game. It looks beautiful. Playfield, cabinet and backglass are all a 10. Just need to do custom weathered paint jobs on Wolverine and Magneto. music is decent. Sound effects and voices are as good as any other pinball, except Family Guy which has the best voices of any pin IMO.
THE BAD. Wolverine is too big and his arms hit the ball. And the mounting is a joke. Kind of ruins the game.

WOW what a fantastic game this is, really happy to own this baby!
DMD Animation is a killer, about time went back to the old school look :)
Great stacking modes, love the magnet spinning disc, this game just reeks fun,fun,fun.
This is in my top 10 easy.
And will only get better with more codes to come.

This game now has complete code. This game has everything anyone would want in pinball. It has a great layout and is very much a shooter's pin. It reminds me more of SM than Tron or IM with regards to ball times, which surprised me. This game is going to have some long ball times for better players. Great toys, great music, best art package from Stern to date, great call outs; this could be the best Stern ever if they get the rules right.
Re-rated in light of the new rules. The rule set is still not perfect, could use some more tweaking, but this game is now a ton of fun and worth checking out again if you were one of the ones who wrote it off at some point during its first eight months of existence.
Re-rated this game a third time. This is now the game I play the most and I'm enjoying the combos and flow. I never thought I'd like a game more than Tron but XMen is the real deal. Get the Iceman mod, very cool. Worried the magnets are not protected enough long term.

Can't wait for the code update. Stunning otherwise.
10 months on I have downgraded rating. Code still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Flow not great. Some shots clanky. It is a very good looking game still!
May 2015 update: now one of my fav games. the bitter taste of the wait for code has not left me. However, I find myself playing this game a lot and I love it. flow is better now that I can actually make the shots. practice makes perfect.
July 2020 update: Bitter taste on code wait has finally faded. really like the game. about to put Pinball Mix tunes into it, which will make me love it even more. Really underrated now.

This game is gorgeous, and has a fantastic, deep ruleset. The DMD show is spectacular, and the zone-LED effects are nifty!
The game might need a few tweaks out of the box, and the code is still early. However, there are a ton of shots, great toys, and incredible theme integration.

I have put over 50 plays already on the LE and I am very impressed. Everything from lighting, sound, layout, flow, theming, rules and artwork is top notch. I can't stop playing this game. It is very challenging and makes you keep coming back for more. I am playing version 1.1 and once they get an update out there to fix some of the glitches this maybe my favorite stern game of all time (and possibly a top 3 game of mine of all time). Make sure to check this game out! If you can't get a hold of an LE or don't have the budget for one, the pro is still a game not to miss.
1.2 code update. This is my favorite game stern game ever to be released since Spiderman. With the new code update this is an incredible machine. The new Magneto Multiball light show is awesome. Must have game.

This could be a 10.. or perhaps a 9.5 if the code was good.. It has just about everything you want in pinball., some of the best art in pinball (I absolutely believe this), awesome light show, music, dots, etc. 3rd flipper game with a lot of satisfying shots, feels like SM combined with Tron, IM, and AC/DC. But the CODE IS HORRIBLE.
