One of a kind, LEDs and sound amazing, best pinball I've ever played.

So many shots! The rainbow targets design is genius and incorporating it into "No place like home" ball save is great. You have to use all of the beautiful flipper bats to make all of the shots in this game.

Feels like playing the next generation Wiiliam's game. I agree with this game being the reincarnation
of Twilight Zone in Dorothy clothing.

The different flipper modes are unique and present interesting challenges to even the most experienced players that have the "no hold" and "weak" handicap to make point scoring during high score modes a real challenge.

I find myself craving a game or two every time I walk by my machine.

I like following my progress through the game in the large 4 quadrant display. I also find myself daydreaming too long when the video animations are going on and let the ball have its way without me "in" the game.

The shaker is well incorporated into the game.

Invisiglass is worth getting.

Toys:
Castle to bash
Witch to melt
Crystal ball adds to all aspects of gameplay and gets a glance every so often
Spinning house with animated witches legs is a cool mode to work towards
Winkie target with associated hurry-ups is fun ala Indiana Jones Idol target
Tree pop bumpers is the perfect implementation of this storyline and making the shot through the Forrest is so much fun.
Munchkin land ball lock is a neat design

Every game time on my friends machine is about 2.5 minutes. I am up to about 3 minutes after 50 or so games.

I believe the Emerald City edition with gorgeous direct print cabinets and Emerald ramps, trim, backglass, and legs is the one to get for a collection. Be sure to find one with the 7.5V LED boards to avoid issues. The Ruby Red version is a looker too, but falls just a little short because the cabinet is decaled.

Frank from Jersey Jack pinball service has been very prompt in answering all questions about the game.

Definitely a top 3 game in my book.

Good machine overall. The lights show is the best of any machine so far with a near perfect use of color changing LEDs. The game rules should be more clear...so the first several game plays feel more like just "hit the ball" not "aim for this"....Both upper mini playfields lack any kind of skill play.

The Pros:
One of the most iconic movie theme of all time...Who doesn't remember growing up watching The Wizard of Oz every holiday season !!
Overall very fun game for all ages.
Beautiful artwork, lighting and integration of movie clips & sound.

The Cons:
Rules are unclear/deep and take several repeated game plays to start to understand.
Upper mini playfields lack any sort of real skill.

The Takeaway:
With deep rule sets and beautiful theme WOZ is a keeper.
Game play may seem unclear at first but will keep seasond and novice players coming back for more.

Would I buy it? Yes...

Just a side note: This by far is my wifes favorite machine so I will be adding a WOZ 75th to my collection. I will update my post afterwards.

One of the prettiest games ever made. I had the pleasure playing one of those machines on a recent visit to Chicago. It could have been all that and then some but is isn't. The game play is somewhat uninspiring. The pop bumper after the ball drains one the left lane is a complete waste and somewhat symptomatic of the entire layout. No real game flow or much of a strategy. Too bad I really love to look at this game since it looks very impressive.

A really fantastic game. The lighting and artwork really are everything they are cracked up to be, and the integration of theme is exceptionally good. The LCD display adds a unique dimension, even if just for spectators (since it is hard to pay much attention to the screen while playing). Gameplay is certainly challenging, both in terms of learning the rules and then actually getting through all the various challenges. (I highly recommend reading a detailed rulesheet - it is easy to be lost without it.) I almost can't imagine ever completing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, but the challenge will keep me playing for a long time. Everybody in the family really likes the game!

Edit: May 2018:
Amazing game. I was fortunate enough to play an LE on location in Vancouver. These guys are not fooling around; they know good pinball.
But...at the same time, this is somehow not so satisfying. Not sure why.

I've only played this game about 10 times. The problems I have with it: No ball save. The balls can drain in 2 seconds and you just lose the ball. The game typically only lasts a minute or less. I have won replays on this in that time. The point of a pinball is to get to play for more than a few seconds. The sound is repetetive and frankly, terrible. The flippers are kind of neat. Other than that, this game has very little going for it.

I didn't enjoy the game the first 5 times I played it, but then more and more it grew on me as I learned the rule set. I really enjoyed playing it. The thing I hated was the music, omg over and over, shut it off! Sound quality and sound effects are fine, the music just became so repetitive.

Very pretty and flashy game but boy what a snooze fest I owned one and sold it after only 2 weeks

Look, my whole family played this game for hours! The theme will be viable for years to come, and the lighting...come on! B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! Beautiful and incredibly disorientating at times. The art work is astounding. Game play is easy to get lost in and shooting just for shooting can still score points but not nearly enough to achieve high scores. Wife and kids now want one! Send money to.....

Every time I play JJ's Wizard of Oz, I have a blast. It's one of those games that seems to hypnotize me when I play it. I find it challenging, fun, and great to look at. I am not a fan of the pink stand-up directly between castle drop / VUK and the lock ramp - that thing is not well-placed. the various levels of PF and the growing witch and haunted tree pops make the PF an adventure.

The modes are easy to start and there are so many toys and gimmicks (the left outlane "TOTO" alone is a neat feature, but I'll be damned if I can make the "Ball Saving" TOTO shot!) that the lastability of the game is improved by all the different shots the player can make.

WOZ is a great game and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to play. Buying, on the other hand, is steep and probably won't drop much since the game is still fairly new.

Whole lotta crazy crap going on here.
On the surface everything about this table should point to being the greatest game of all time.
The table is beautiful, the sounds and movie clips are great, toys galore, two upper playfields and I seemed to say "Holy crap! Did you see that?" quite often.
However, once I got past the “WOW” factor, I found it to be a bit frustrating to play. Some goals were clear (like Rainbow & Toto) but others were not leaping out at me.
It didn’t flow all that well either. I felt like I had to work to set up every shot and be very, very careful if I missed. Which leads me to something I thought about while playing.
WOZ is definitely not a table for new comers, in fact something on this level may scare newbies off pinball for good and that’s never a good thing.

I did like it, quite a bit in fact but it's not something I would pay the premium for.

This game is the most polarizing game I've ever come across. The people who like it, can't get enough of it. The people who don't like it, don't want to be bothered it. IMO,this game needs Steve Ritchie. There's a few problems I have with this game. There's no flow to this game (note: Steve Ritchie is my favorite designer). The light show is rather amazing, but the lighting is terrible, there's no GI lighting. I need to see ball. Seeing the ball brings me to the 3rd flipper. You can't see ball coming to the 3rd flipper. Unless the magnet catches the ball for the shot, I won't use that flipper during gameplay. I'm also not a big fan of wide-body games. That isn't the game's fault, just my personal preference. Wizard of Oz is a great movie, but as a pinball theme it does absolutely nothing for me. I've read that people who usually don't play pinball are playing this game, that is a good thing for all of us. To sum up, I feel this game is a swing and a miss. However, it is clear that JJP have put a ton of effort into this game. IMO, effort like that will lead to better JJP games in the future.

BEAUTIFUL GAME! That really should be the headline for any review of WOZ. JJP said they wanted to raise the bar for pinball machines and that's exactly what they did. this machine screams quality! The art is gorgeous, the hardware is solid, and the LCD is a long overdue addition. The theme is one of the best integrated of any machine. I'm no WOZ super fan, I enjoy the film for what it is, but I'm happy to say the music and callouts never seem hokey or annoying to me due to the association. Great code, very deep, but easy to understand after a few games. It might be slightly intimidating to novice players. Interesting modes available due to upgraded technology such as "No Hold Flippers" and "Weak Flippers are welcome additions. The only minor flaw is that some of the shots feel a bit difficult/unnatural, the wizard saucer and crystal ball spinner being the primary examples. Unless you have absolutely NO TOLERANCE for the theme, this is a must play for any pinball enthusiast!

WOZ is an amazing machine to look at. The lights are awesome(but can be problematic) the theme was done really well. I own this machine and even tho I really like the look of it I wish I enjoyed playing it more. It still is fun but I find myself playing other pins in my collection more.

This game has great artwork and theme. Amazing walking up to it but the play is boring. Play is repetitive and not fun.
A real pretty machine when all lit up with an amazing theme, but for me it is very disappointing. Technical support from Jersey Jack an issue too. A friend of mine called to ask about a problem and was told they just make them. I think this could be a technicians nightmare and who knows how long this manufacturer will stay in business. Compare that to Stern that is big and going strong with excellent customer service and support.

A friend has one. I was really excited to visit him to play this WOZ machine for the first time. Now that's about 6 months ago and I really wanted to give it a chance and played one game every time I was at my friend's house. But EVERY TIME it ends the same way. I play ONE game and I walk away. I often even don't play the 3rd ball because I just don't like it.
It is a quality built game, don't get me wrong. But the theme sucks to me and it just has too much bling for my taste. And i think the playfield is really overpopulated. I just like flow games better.

It's been a long time since I originally reviewed this game, and a lot has changed, both in regards to the code on the game and my experience with it. Here are my updated thoughts:

I still feel like this game is still best described as a spiritual successor to Twilight Zone. With a ton of modes that make use of a very packed playfield, there's always something different to see in Wizard of Oz. Whether it's layout or code, the Jersey Jack team threw all that they had into putting this game together.

While it's fun to flip from the first play, there is a bit of a barrier to entry to fully enjoying Wizard of Oz. Unless you're paying close attention to what the screen is telling you, the call outs, the musical cues, and even the status reports, you can find yourself a little lost in the game's progression. Once you're a bit more familiar with the way the game unfolds, however, few games will give you so much satisfaction as The Wizard of Oz.

The playfield layout is full of challenging shots, and the geometry is great for both flow shots and trapping up to take measured aim. The spinner and the Wizard shots are both challenging to hit, especially under hurry up situations.

The game lends itself to longer ball times, but it's no pushover. Modes are a fair challenge, but you have to be very deliberate in your shooting if you want to progress deep into the game. I suggest opening the right outlane up to the widest setting and giving the game a pretty steep pitch.

The sounds, music, and light show are simply spectacular. Whether they're aiming for humor, a bit of urgency, or just informative sound, the JJP team hits the mark. I often hear the sounds in my head hours after playing, which give me the itch to return to the game once more.

Like Stern's Lord of the Rings, there are smaller goals that feel like a real accomplishment to reach, such as trying to Melt the Witch. Finishing these feels a lot more satisfying than what many games offer for their main wizard mode, but there's still SO MUCH more to see in Wizard of Oz. It'll be quite some time before I exhaust all there is to see and do here.

I admittedly failed to appreciate the depth and beauty of this game for way too long. It can be a little confusing or even intimidating if you have had limited exposure to Wizard of Oz, but keep at it. Eventually the game will just click for you and then you're in for quite an experience. We may never see another game so packed full of features and depth again, so make sure to appreciate what we have here.

***Old Review***
It feels like a bit of a spiritual successor to Twilight Zone, and that's a good thing! This game has some really fun shots, some imaginative modes, and top notch presentation. I need more time with it to understand it better, but it's a winner.

Purchased this game 6 months ago and just love it. It sits next to my MB, AF and MM. The sounds, colors and play are truly fantastic. When friends come over they gravitate to WOZ and MM. Quality of the machine is great. Don't plan on selling this one.

Extremely beautiful to look at and fantastic to play. Lighting is superb and the 3 playfields are well laid out. The toys are top notch and the translite with built in LED display really sets this machine apart from the others. Jersey Jack has made an excellent machine from top to bottom and this will remain in my collection. Oz is a timeless classic like its movie.

Very fun game and an excellent start to Jersey Jack's business. Only played a few times, but I know it's great. I just need more practice on this machine...
