I really enjoy Whirlwind. It's brutally difficult, but with enough practice, it's one of the most fun Lawlor designs I've ever played. Not very "deep", but the difficulty makes the very short amount of objectives hard to accomplish. Definite "must-play".

The best System 11 game IMHO. Great game with tons of good shots. Favorite among guests.

An incredibly hard game in real life, but perhaps my favorite of all of FarSight's emulated tables from their Williams Collection. I consider this an FunHouse to be siblings, if you will, and I've always preferred this one. I laugh every time I hear the old man say, "BY CRACKY!"

Game flow was good but not great. Maybe I needed 10 more games to get a good feeling from the game.

After about 6 months of owning this game I am ready to review it.
This game is one of the best ever! LOVE IT!!!
"Toys and Gimmicks"? The spinning discs and fan blower are excellent!
"Layout and gameplay"? Excellent and quite a challenge! Epic replayability!
The only places I rated this pin a little lower were in the sounds department just because of the lady saying "Oh Millions" over and over when million is lit... could of had SOME variation there!
Thats it, I really like the music and the music that you get when you hit millions in multiball is sooooo satisfying!

Whirlwind was one of the first games I started getting better than other people at, and I will always have a soft spot for it. Classic Lawlor design with a great theme and sounds. All time great!

I am normally a big DMD pinball fan. This game however wont be leaving my collection anytime soon. theme done great, simple and challenging. three spinning discs change the balls direction adding a whole new dimension to the game. the art work is great inside and out. plus the topper adds a great feel to the game and theme.

This is the first pinball machine I ever played. I didn't like pinball at the time (back in '89-'90), but I remember that I enjoyed this game anyway and thought the fan on top was a cool touch. Still fun in 2012...

This is one of my favorite pins, classic styling and gameplay all around. While it's not super deep or flashy, it's just damn fun to play.

One of my all time favorite games. I played it the week it was released, then regularly for a few years. Then as an adult I acquired my own very nice example and not surprisingly the fun factor is still the same. WW is a timeless pin that I will never be bored with. If I had to describe pinball to an alien civilization with three examples, WW would be one of them certainly.

I had this game for about 3 years. I sold it shortly after NGG, but I think Whirlwind is the better of those 2 games.

EDIT: I bought another WW, and will be doing a playfield swap once CPR finishes. It will probably stay in the collection this time.

Classic Lawlor design, engaging ruleset, very fun to play and challenging. Tough jackpots when you're feeling the power of wind. One of my favorite 3 shot combos.

This is one of the pins I remember the most from when I was playing as a young boy. The fan on top was really awesome because I played in the local tavern and during the summer time it was really hot in there with no A/C so I would play just trying to get the fan to kick on to cool me off. Very COOL machine!

The spinning discs in the playfield and the fan blowing wind at you from the topper add to an already awesome game! Great fun. I'm really enjoying the game a lot more now that I own one!

Whirlwind is my favorite of the System 11 games, thanks to the genius of that there Pat Lawlor fella'. The game's rules, sound, and artwork really take you deep into the eye of the storm. You're there. You feel it (literally). Lawlor put the icing on the cake by adding a topper in the form of a fan that blows air into your face when you're attempting to start multiball and/or score jackpots. Just fucking genius.

One of the memorable games of my childhood, and the only one that I still hold in high regard.

In my opinion, Pat Lawlor (the designer of Whirlwind) is all about fun, and this title definitely reflects that. From the spinning playfield discs to the backbox fan to the elegant ruleset, this pin is good, clean, accessible fun, and great on long lasting entertainment.
