The best eye candy from a pin since CV. Excellent game play. With one more update I think this may be in the top 5

Great game. Love the layout, love the recognizer, and love the music. With the EL wire on the ramps, this game is a real looker (for a Stern). Tons of fun on this game. The Skill Shot is a well designed and actually feels like a "skill shot". A top Stern effort in my opinion, great quick smash about game that packs a serious fun punch.

"Whoa-Whoa-Whoa!" A possible turning point for game design from John Borg, started with the fun Iron Man game. Bringing back memories of early 90's style pins (less flashy toys, like T2 or HSII), this game feels very similar to Borg's own DE Tommy. Very fast moving game, with lots of ramps! Not a whole lot of moving parts. A fellow pinsider agreed, in that this machine is definately one of the most accessible modern machines to maintain, for new pinball machine collectors. The "recognizer" three target motorized bank should be familiar to fans of Spider-Man or Attack from Mars (hit the ball past the target and ricochet the ball within like a Tron disc). Art is typical photoshop. Depending on the production run of Tron Legacy Pro, the game will either include a cool looking 3D translite ala Stern's Avatar, collage of all the main characters, or translite featuring the lovely ladies of the film (Gem & Quorra). Incredible sound! Wow! Possibly the best sounding machine produced by Stern! Daft Punk fans will dig selections used from the movie soundtrack. Semi-difficult game with quite a bit of drains going in the outlanes, but not as brutal as Iron Man. Overall, a fun game! Great to see Stern improving on their machines' fun factor. Special props go out to Borg's team for keeping the gameplay almost identical, in making the Pro model compared to the LE model. Can't wait to see John Borg's next design! Maybe his next one we'll see him revist another classic layout...TFTC. Highly recommended game to collector's who watch their pinball budgets, as the Pro model has all the fun from the LE model here at half the price.

Modified rating after 600 plays. I'm still going strong after so many plays. The game is challenging enough that after so many games I'm still looking forward to the next. The music is great as well. I have added a shaker and I wouldn't mind an upgradded sub. Used to be my 3rd fav... no fav pin.

A very back-to-the-basics approach to pinball. Lacks the toys and novelty of Stern's other recent attempts. Good for a very fast game of pinball, but not a machine I would purchase.

Finally played this at the local arcade. Even though it had the earlier software and was just a Pro version, I really thought this game rocked! I am a bit biased, as I am a huge Tron geek. Based on theme alone I traded for an LE model nib!

Stern's speaker system needs a serious kick in the woofer!

Flow was better than expected, lights and sound implementation were best in two years from Stern, and no more pixelated graphics! Nice.

Wow, this is the first game since RBION from stern that got me comming back for more.
Didn't know the theme but the pin made me want to see the movie and i must say it's a very good transfer to pinball :)
Sounds are fantastic and the constant 'battle' against the machine is great.

SOFTWARE VERSION 1.5

super fast, the engineering of the playfield design was brilliant. yes comparible to FH, but it has a different flow from the combo shots and multiball modes. i've loved tron since the original early 80's movie and arcade game. the artwork, daft punk, and theme are all up my personal preferences. MB's can be stacked, hard to score, fun and fast. finally stern has come back somewhat (think RS, or AVATAR). A SHOOTERS GAME

Not a bad game at all, took awhile to grow on me but I like it more, the more I play. I love the LE features in the game but have seen the mods that can be done to the Pro to mimic them and would totally go the Pro route for the machine cause of the huge price difference.

played 10 strait games on it. Fun but I think i'll stick to playing on location.

Update,

I'm now buying one, first nib. Will update after a couple hundred games

100 game update:

fast, fast, fast reaction time must be razor sharp with this pin. I like the sounds (game is hooked up to external sub) a lot. stacking multiballs is fun. just a lot of one more game funness.

I am changing my mind on this game full circle. The game has good flow. With the right mods............a Tron Pro can look great. I want one now.

Great theme but to be honest was not expecting much from this pin. Stern proved me wrong on this one.

Likes: left ramp is satisfying, the fast and furious multiball (add-a-ball feature is nice), the spinning disc, the theme

Dislikes: 3-D backglass artwork, some annoying sound bites from the movie, some of the toys look cheap

Overall: Fun to play, I'll have to spend more time on it to see if I warm up to it more.

Wow started off thinking this was okay, but after about 20 plays I started to really like this. The DMD animation scenes are just not good, however the game has the ability to grow on you. I played this while I was on vacation every day for 4 days and now want to own one. I think this has tremendous potential if you install a sub woofer and install lights on the ramps. I also think future software upgrades and a shaker motor might put this game in the top 20. New software made me revise rating. DMD is now awesome.

I put about two hours on Tron the first time I played. The art package looks great and fits the theme perfect. The music on the game is outstanding. I really like the track after the three bank drops. The two ramps flow really smooth along with the left loops. Although some shots from the left flippers were a littler harder (both right loops were hard to hit for me) but the right outer loop was satisfying to make all the way around especially if you hit the right ramp as a combo. They should have feed the upper right loop back to the upper flipper instead of down into the pops to be set up for consecutive looping shots and provide even better flow. I don't know if the game I played wasn't leveled correctly but weak shots that feed through the pop bumpers had a tendency to fall down the middle. The game has a nice skill shot into the arcade that requires some nudging. The spinning disc works nice, looks great, and only once did it throw the ball directly down the left outlane. The rule set was a good mix of multiball and standard modes -fairly deep. I could see this game having legs in a home environment.

Overall a nicely designed pf layout, good rules, great sound and artwork make Tron a very enjoyable game.

I must admit, I was worried that I wouldnt like Tron Legacy, but after playing it, i was very impressed with everything. By far the most notable thing about this game is the music. Soundtracks straight from the film are excellent and really get you groovin' while you play. The sound effects compliment the target shots well. The 3rd flipper was a great challenge and the Light Cycle ramps are really neat. The Recognizer has an incredible blast of power. The cabinet is beautiful, and I actually liked the translite. Overall, a perfect score from me. I want one so bad.

Ok so I had a chance to put 20 or so games on Tron legacy tonight and here is my quick review. This game is in many ways a step in the right direction for Stern Pinball, but some annoying design and manufacturing choices remain that in other ways take pinball in the wrong direction. Gameplay is fun, a flow minded pin in a lot of ways with good loops and nice ramps. The spinning disc feature is quite good and really shines during multiball. The thing can move the ball at quite a rate of speed and create some nice crazy bounces with the spin it puts on the ball at times. Other times it does barely anything. Game rules are not too deep, but I suppose deep enough. I got to Sea Of Simulation one time, it was pretty fun. I wonder what the portal multiball is like. Some shots feel kind of "hollow" if you will and not very rewarding, namely the two mini orbits next to both ramps, something just does not feel right there. The sound is awesome, but that was kind of to be expected. The art package is hit and miss, nothing to write home about for sure but it works. The game can not help escaping feeling like Rolling Stones or Avatar in some ways, maybe it is the plain jane clear ramps (lame) that does it. Really a shame the lighting on this game could not be better. Sure the LE may fix that but this is the "base" version of the game and because of that it suffers from a lack of creative lighting. All in all a step in the right direction for stern, but still not a return to their glory years of a few years ago.
