I played the Hulk version. Super fun game. Like all the modes. Callouts "ok", but not fantastic.

The colors/graphics are very fun, cool rules... lots to do!

Originally I hated this pin because the flow wasn't really good in light of the tight lanes. However, with some more time I've come to enjoy it. Balls do have a tendency to get caught in the Hulk's arms which is annoying. In addition, the saucer to activate Hulk multiball and extra ball is frustrating because the direct shot has to be very light for it to hold or you have to use the Black Widow ramp which is very tight. I can see the casual player hating this pin because it is difficult with the narrow lanes but avid players should appreciate it because it is challenging.

Truly let down by this one. Love the theme but not done well. Shots are boring, gameplay is boring. Didn't like at all, could have been done well but wasn't.

It's okay at best. I haven't seen the actual movie, so my rating can be considered biased in some ways, but the game seems to play a bit too rough. The playfield is just a total wreck, though. It features no flow whatsoever, the balls can get caught under Hulk's arms, and the hulk eject needed to be rethought, it's in the worst location possible for shooting it. If you're looking for a game with flow, this one isn't it.

Unfortunately this game is a let down. Nothing scores points until you get way into the game and start collecting Avengers, the end of ball bonus is *way* out of whack with the other scoring and some of the shots are clunky. The hulk toy wastes a ton of real estate too, not to mention the hulk kick out saucer which is weak and pathetic. Could/should have been so much better.

Played this many times, as much as I wanted to like this machine, I just don't... it's got terrible flow and the shots just don't "feel good" whatever that means I can't explain... very disappointing!

Pro : Good looking, nice. Interesting original layout. The orbit shot is satisfying. I found lightning OK, even on a pro.

Cons : Feels fragile and cheap. Far too many ball hang ups. I don't see / don't understand the lane inserts. The central black widow ramp is very, very tight. I see that as a flaw right now… I understand some may like it after many, many games.

Overall, not as bad as I imagined.

I'm a huge George Gomez fan, and I really thought Avengers had a cool layout until I played it. Shots are very tight especially th BW ramp, which even when made does not feel smooth or satisfying. The Hulk is a great toy, despite the ball hang ups. I dislike how you cannot directly shoot the Hulk saucer, however. Sounds and music are good. I especially like the Hulk's speech. Lighting is weak on the pro version. Nice artwork. Rules seem repetitive, though admittedly I have not been able to make much progress due to the difficult shots. Maybe you need to be a high level player to better enjoy this game.

What a shame. Bad shots, uninteresting ruleset, and just overall really boring, makes The Avengers the worst Stern I've ever played.

This is the worst pin I have played in a really long time, this will be the Fifth time I have put forth an effort to like this pin and I am just really disappointed. The first time I played the balls would just get stuck behind the hulk, behind the hulk drop downs, and on the right ramp. The second time I played at another location, the balls stuck in the right ramp so bad that the pin could not be played at all. The third, forth and fifth time I didn't have much issue with the balls getting stuck but the game play was terrible. The ball favors straight down the middle and the left, right gutters really bad to the point that it's unplayable. Granted they didn't have the corner bumpers set tighter so I can't totally fault the game but I am very angry that I blew over $40 for no good score and many 10 second games. The owner says he is constantly under the glass repairing this machine. I know its a love it or hate it pin and I really tried to like it since there really aren't any pinball machines in Kansas but be warned, it's worse than most people say it is!

This is my THIRD follow up, I have dumped so much money into this machine at $1 per play, many of which only lasted a few seconds that I am totally convinced that this machine is the worst pinball machine I have ever played, maybe ever created. I am so frustrated with this pinball machine for draining so bad, having bad layout, hard shots that even when hit don't complete, come back out and drain. It's just a horrible, machine, I say sacrifice $10 and find out for yourself, even with the tilt sensor off, throwing this machine around more than an INCH makes no difference, it's that bad... I never want to see this pin again and have sworn it off before I end up breaking a leg or damaging it against the wall, yes I admit I have gotten that rough with it, with permission from the owner who also HATES IT!

Own it - spent 20++ hours tweaking all the initial design faults out of it - once that's all done WOW what a pin! Cannot stop plating the damn thing, it is VERY addictive. A few mates have been around and expected a heap of junk based on the 'rap' this game gets in general ....and they have walked away VERY surprised , with 2 of my mates saying they would/may own it.

I think it gets bad reviews as most people play the ones dumped on site by average operators who dont spend any time getting this game to where it ( granted ) should have been at when it left the factory. On top of this , casual players would have some average games with the shots being VERY VERY tight , so they get flimsy build with difficult shots , drop a few bucks in and walk away dejected and hating the game. PLAY A HOME VERSION and see the wild differences.

LOVE the tough tough BW and IM shots.

Someone ( who hadnt played the title much - -once only and not my machine ) said to me "the Hulk doesnt do much" - really I say, he has a plate switch and a magnet and he activates every time the ball goes anywhere near him and either belts the ball physically around or the magnet whips it back at ya , on top of that you can use him to hit a ball into the Super Jackpot target during his 4 ball multiball.............gee if only he did as much as THING hand on that great TAF machine hey ! ( sarcasm ).

Buy it , fix it, tweak it, mod it and it is a pearler !

Needs just a touch more code with combo and repeat ramp champion awards.
COULD be perfect with that.

I have been lucky enough to play the green Hulk version of this deck at the 1up and the Lakewood Grill in Denver. Now that I have had the chance to play this "lesser" version of this game... The LE/Premium version of this game is definitely the way to go.

The Pros:
Finished (or close to) software feels SOOOO nice on a new game. The PF is not the standard Fan-Man(tm) layout we have come to expect from Mr. Gomez. First game by Mr. Gomez that has not just 1, but 2 banks of drop targets. What took so long George? I really like the shifted ramp/orbit layout. The Nick Fury shot requires sniper skill. Hawkeye is my favorite shot in the game by far. Running multiple modes at once makes stackability of modes plus multiball a great way to play. I like the dots on this table's DMD.

The Cons:
This spinner is supposed to... spin, right? The Hulk toy is a ball trap/PITA even when it works! The Black Widow ramp is a tough shot that "sometimes" drops the ball into the HULK saucer. Don't get me started on the Hulk lock saucer that is only going to wear down and become even less reliable of a shot from the black widow ramp drop shot than it is already. Crappy shots/toys in the middle of this table make for a less than stellar game.

The Takeaway:
A solidly themed game that is fun to play and should swallow many quarters on location. Alright for the players, non-offensive for the girlfriends and great for the kids. This version of the game is not as good as the Premium/LE by a mile. That would make this a decent game, not a great game, if you have to do Avengers pinball, get the upgrade, (especially if you are spending that much money on the standard version of the game to begin with...) you'll be glad you did.

HULK MAKE POOPIES JACKPOOT!

Update - 7-26-13:
The more I play this game... the more I like it, and the more I don't. I am starting to really understand the rules and figure out the priority of shots. Yeah, that Black Widow is still a bitch... but, it is the Black Widow shot. Good thing this game doesn't have the Thor drop targets. Bad thing it doesn't have the Hawkeye secondary ramp. Another Stern that shows that more toys do not necessarily make a better game. Goooooo Tranny-Formers!

I like the "Irish Buckwheat in a headlock Hulk Underarm" Sooper JP!

Credit to Gomez for trying to do something unique with the ramps and break out of his fan layouts. Just fell a little short. Some shots are very hard to make and can get repetitive.

If you're looking for a pinball machine with a high challenge and tough to hit shots, then this is it. Kind of shallow since its the pro version. The call outs are ok, Hulk's are way better than Loki's (horrible). Pretty solid overall art package. But after a few games I was already quite bored with it.

I found the game to be on the not so much fun side. The low ramps are pretty boring to watch while hulk just takes up to much of the upper play field. Not for me I'll stick with AC/DC.

I really want to like this game and I do, it's pretty nice to look at and has quite a few redeeming qualities. But honestly agree with the majority of the feedback that this game just has a cheap feel to it. The ramps aren't really ramps IMO, more like plastics with plastic guides on them. They have a very flimsy feel to them. The Black Widow ramp seems to move and flex everytime I hit it. Just disappointing in the build quality. Beyond the build quality, the game can seem on the slow side because scoring is tough to achieve.

With that said, I enjoy the game. I really like the unconventional layout. The Hulk toy is great (even with the occasional hangup) I love the call-outs, especially the Hulk. Some funny stuff and I like the fact that they aren't movie quotes or scenes, just all original dots and call outs. I just wish Stern had spent a few more bucks on quality plastics and ramps. The art is beautiful and the Theme is right on.

The game is fun, but the craftsmanship is complete garbage. I played a nib Tron built around the same time this came out. Stern can make solid games.. This one is a pile of cardboard.

I was profoundly disappointed in this pin. The design feels lazy and slapped-together, the shots aren't all that fun to hit and I felt like so much more could have been done with this license.

I also hate playfields that feature photos instead of illustrated artwork, but I guess that's where the world is going (specifically all the Stern movie tie-ins).

Played Avengers Pro today at Gameworks. Overall I thought it was a good game but not great.
It was fun to play. Being a fan of the movie I really like the theme. I liked the Iron Man, capt America and Iron Man shots. Black widow ramp was hard but manageable sometimes from the right flipper. The spinning tesseract was better than excepted but didn't get much time on the game to understand what it does. Sorry.
The game had the Loki lock lights in the far upper left corner and didn't seem to work, although I only looked one ball so I was unable to see Loki Multiball. Thought the Hulk toy was cool except for one ball hangup one game by his arm which was moved by a ball search. Hulk Multiball was fun, was able to light him solid on the playfield. Game played well. I didn't think it was lightning fast to me but fast enough.
I didn't care for the Hulk taking up most of the voice on the game (at least the games I played). He did have some funny quotes but his voice wasn't what I was expecting. I didn't notice any combos during the game so I'm not sure if they are in the software. I started the capt America mode and was a little disappointed that you had to hit his shot repeatedly. The code felt very MB & XMen to me. The Hulk saucer was a bitch to get the ball in. I only had one ball go into the saucer and it was a ricochet off of hulk which very softy fell into the saucer.
Overall I liked he game but not enough to buy one. I do hope to play the game some more.

The more I play this game, the more I like it. Great flow and tough shots, but very satisfying when you can hit them. Sound is very good. A few bugs, but these have been ironed out. Some PF plastic seem cheap, but machine overall is solid. Game gets the most play in my collection.

(pro model) Kind of dead; LE might be better, toy is too simple, ramps similar to transformers, just not enough action to keep interested for long.
