This game rocks for a System80b of its time. It has a number of great shots to make that are all largely forgiving. The multiball is straightforward enough to achieve (and multiplies the playfield), but difficult enough with some dangerous drop targets to be a challenge with sharp angle lock shots to achieve. The payoff is worth it with the 2nd set of GI lights. I installed slow color changing RGB lights to that circuit to really emphasize and celebrate the MB feature.

The only negative I'll note is the sound - there is no vocals despite us being years past having the technology. Any music is just a 'whoop whoop'... It's the only negative to an otherwise really cool gem of a game.

A very underrated game. If you like Alien Star, you should also like this title. Shatzing the left inlane will light the spinner on the right for 10K a spin, in place of 1K a spin. A good rip on a juiced spinner can net you around 400K! If you can do this during mulitball you get either 2X or 3X value of that value depending on how many balls are in play.

An interesting addition that Gottlieb uses different GI lighting during multiball, so the GI goes RED while in multiball.

….and if you drain your ball while balls are in the lock saucers…guess what, you get to watch them drain…only to have to relock them on your next turn.

Overall, great “do the thing” game.

I've owned Tag Team now for about 3 years, and surprisingly it hasn't left my collection. I will admit that I am a sucker for drop target games and per my review on Count Down, I've liked older games that have modes focused on drop targets. This one is a bit more unique in that hitting the drop targets in order (T-A-G) (T-E-A-M) opens up the chances to get multi-ball. It's harder than you think to hit the drop targets in order. Once you do so, you need to hit balls into the three specific locations that activate multi-ball. I consider myself a decent player overall but probably get multi-ball once every 3-4 games. That's what keeps the game so interesting -- it's a fun shooting game with basic rules and a few areas to aim for. However, trying to get multi-ball is what keeps this game challenging for me.

A couple of cool gimmicks also makes this game stand out -- there is essentially a "save" area on the left outlanes in case you lose a ball. Also, getting a ball down the left lane activates this huge multiplier on the right side lane. There a few "tricks" in Tag Team that will keep you coming back to play.

Two sets of drops that each unlock a ball lock. Two locks to a three ball multi-ball that unlocks triple playfield scoring.

Multiball triggers a relay that changes the playfield GI from white to red across entire playfield - which is brilliant.

Other scoring: bonus multiplier either holds over from ball to ball or drops one each drain (switchable in the dips), left inlane light spinner from 1000 to 10000 a spin (think backward Alien Star), bonus maxed lights bonus collect at drop holes (switches which lit with each target hit on playfield) that can be collected pre-drain.

Other gameplay: *Last chance (switched on playfield targets between Outland drains) let’s you play any locked ball upon drain to continue play, drop targets to light locks 1 and 2 (1 being TAG 2 being TEAm) must be hit in order to light locks; if hit out of order any hit drop will reset bank where you last progressed. Four player option upon start to play 4 vs 4 or as Tag-Team player 1/3 vs 3/4 where each teams totals are summed for the victor. Right in-lane lights upper tight shot that gives bigger rewards and extra ball (reminds me of scared stiff upper extra ball shot reversed?). Pops are just plain old pops they give you some points and give some variety to ball trajectory.

Note: There is no right outlane, but two left outlines (see above *last chance).

Overall - an absolutely simple/brilliant design.

Theme…. If you like wrestling = amazing. If you don’t = meh.

Playfield art = great.

Backglass = awful (and I like the phot System 80 ones)

Sound = Mediocre. Gets the job done. Not bad, but not great. Oddly very old school for a 80b. No songs, just a firepower/flash sort of looped droning sound piece. Odd stabs, and bangs.

Wrap up - the theme kept me away from this thing (not a wrestling fan), the gameplay/rule set drew me in. I own it and love it. It took the past and did well with it while other system 80s were trying to either get really weird or try things that just didn’t work (in a really charming way ((most of the time)).

My first pin. Lovely shots but hough shots. Super fun theme with that 79-80's wrestling theme. Wonderful backglass art and a very cool lightning relay when multiball starts. Multiball is tough to get but shit rewarding. The last chance feature pretty smart!

Cool game. Definitely not the best theme or art but trying to get multiball is fun and the light change is cool.

I have been searching for a Tag Team for quite a while. When I finally found one, I was not disappointed.

Yes, the art work is just okay and the sound is pretty vanilla, even for the era. But the playfield is bright and creative. The game play is unique and although one could have a great time just waling away with the 3 flippers, if one takes the time to understand the rule set, this game is a real winner.

Multi-ball, yes, but only after you run through a number of obstacles; drop targets, capture sink holes, and then a very tough wrap around hole.

It even has an option for playing a combination two on two match, thus the Tag Team moniker.

The only true annoyance that for some reason no on else seems to mention, the score display is incredibly small. I've never seen anything like it on any other machine. And I don't understand why. There is plenty of real estate on the backglass. A full sized score display would have been easy to fit.

But all in all, I'm very glad to have finally added one to my collection.

Kinda reminds me of Fireball minus the spinning disc. You have two saucer locks. They ain't too easy to hit either. Multiball isn't as fun as getting the locks though.

A bit of a slow playfield, but it is pretty cool. Some better art may have helped. Maybe even a crappy license of some off name wrestler like Jimmy Superfly Snuka.

I've played better system 80's but this ain't too bad...would like some better lighting in the game. No flashers, kinda bland.

I picked this up based on the fact it was a John Trudeau design. I found it very fun to play. I liked the rules and the multi-ball was a challenge to get and hard to keep going. Def want to get as the triple scoring during multi allows some good scores to be racked up.

Great game from the 80B era. There are a few potential strategies for scoring with multiball being the most lucrative but also the riskiest. If you see one I highly reccomend having a go.
