This game is way underrated. If you take the time to learn the rules it is really worth it. You have to beat each fighter in order. LED and color DMD really make this game 10x better. I wish the artwork was a little better on the side but I really enjoy this in my line up.

Another Gottlieb from this era that fails to meet the mark in my opinion. It has it’s positive aspects, but is overall just nowhere near as good as the games Bally/Williams and Data East where putting out at the time.

Pro’s:

The game makes utilization of toys, such as the Chun Li upper playfield and Car Bash lower playfield.

Game itself as a decent layout, if the game had a good rule set I would probably excuse most of my criticisms with it.

Artwork is colorful and attractive at a distance.

Con’s:

Artwork, while colorful, poorly drawn on many parts of the table, causing some characters to look warped and generally off.

The rule set is pretty boring: hit shot, defeat character, choose award.

Multiball is vastly overpowered if you know how to return to it: ultimately leading to an easy to hit 200 million point jackpot being lit every time once you complete the rest of the jackpots. This feature carries over.

I’m not sure if the model I played was properly leveled, but this game is unbelievably slow, helping make it easier then it already is.

Overall, this game is just poor. I know some people like it, but i can’t see the appeal personally.

Picked one up During the COVID Pinflation. The nice folks had it in their home for over 20 years and never even knew how to take the glass off! Definitely underpriced as they listed for only $1,000.00. I Gave them $1,200.00 in good faith and as a RAK. As you can imagine, the rubbers were completely dried up and cracked into chunks. The playfield was beyond filthy, and subways were solid black. Spent over 2 months on a complete tear down… rebuilt the flippers, new cabinet switches, upgraded the Stargate ramp coils *AN ABSOLUTE MUST ON ALL SFII to PREVENT BOARD TRANSISTOR DAMAGE*, added all Comet LEDs, Titan rubbers, Cliffys, and custom made car for the car crunch. Once I scrubbed, cleaned, and waxed everything, Honestly it’s an entirely new game and plays absolutely fantastic. The playfield is now in mint shape. One major upgrade I highly recommend is changing the coil stops to system 1 coil stops and drilling them out to fit #10 screws…it’ll give it much more of a Williams flipper feel with the shorter travel (Check the Clay Harrel system 3 pin repair guide for more info). Plus it makes it more challenging!

Not sure why this game gets shit on so much… Yeah the artworks not the best, and it lacks good flow. Still, there are some really satisfying shots (Guile and Chun-Li)…overall it’s not really that bad. The gameplay is relatively fun, and I actually like switching it up playing in between my Bally/Williams games. It’s definitely different, but I think in a good way. Plus Gottlieb system 3’s are absolute TANKs, excellent quality and solid reliability. Not sure if I’ll keep it forever, but for now, it’s a nice addition to the collection

I suspect that those of us that grew up on SFII have a higher rating for the theming and playability.

If you're a fan of the theme, you'll like this one. Had the pleasure of owning one that had lots of cool add ons as well as a color DMD, so it's hard to rate this at base level, but I very much enjoyed the game.. Good variation of shots, some tough shots, cool toy car gimmick under the playfield that you get to smash just like in the old arcade game.. Getting wizard mode got me hooked, only made it there a handful of times and always seemed to choke, haha. But yeah this is a great game, especially for the price range

So much fun (at least as a Street Fighter fan), but also so punishing. With almost no ball saves (sometimes you will literally score 100, yes, 100 points on a single ball), it can be brutal and unforgiving at times.

play field layout is good, sound is true to the game, fun to try to win each match & the light show is amazing when you defeat all fighters, Bison provoking you is classic, love how the ramps open & close while playing, multi ball is fun, guile flash kick ramp is hard to hit, ken hurricane kick is fun to watch, Ryu target hard to hit, watching Chun li spin kick is fun to watch also, i mean who doesn't like a pin with lots of moving parts. the artwork on back glass may not be the best but one glance at it & it immediately takes you back to the early 90's. Honestly one of Gottliebs best dmd pins.

p.s this thing is built like a tank.

All my reviews are going to follow a simple formula for those reading.
Number of shots to make - Pro's - Con's - Must Have Mods - What To Look For When Buying

Number of shots - 10 - very high

Pro's:
* Layout quite good a nice challenge to defeat all 12 fighters
* Great tie in with the video game
* Guile & Chun Li shots very satisfying
* Torpedo multiball a fun mode

Cons:
* The upper playfield can be frustrating if you can make the shot
* Animations are quite poor
* Car crunch below the playfield a good idea but executed poorly
* VERY stop & go. Make a shot, wait, make a shot

Must Have Mods: (Note I will not include things like LED's, Color DMD, Invisiglass or Speaker Upgrades unless it's really badly needed)
* Upgrade of the coil on left flipper (So you can make the Chun Li shot)
* Cliffy Protectors on all scoops
* Arcade screen mod
* Alternate translite

What To Look For When Buying
* Wear on all the scoops
* Wear under the flipper on upper playfield
* Broken car on car crunch

Fun, colorful game , good for a few plays or a cheap dmd to add to the collection. Change the translite, add a colordmd . Yoga flame!

Most people run away when anyone mentions that game, and I can’t disagree. The call outs are annoying, backglass SUCKS, not that great of rules, and it’s a Gottlieb. Although I don’t care for it at all, I guess the theme isn’t terrible. Playfield layout really isn’t that bad. I like the ramps, and the music really isn’t that bad! Car Crunch could be much better. If the price is right, I’d pick one up TEMPORARILY.

Im a huge Street Fighter II Nerd/Fan. Great way to transition a fighter arcade game to pinball. Yes there are plenty of stops in the action, but there are lots of great shots! the lighting could have been better especially in the ryu/ken target but overall it's a nice and welcome edition to any lineup of faster paced games. This one sits squarely between my High Speed and LW3.

Had this I my place for a while but barely played it as I have other better machines.
It's built like a tank and should be reliable with a little TLC but the toys and playfield are pretty clunky.
Good starter game for kids. Seems to appeal to Street fighter freaks but it really lacks flow for pinball diehards.
The car crusher pretty dumb but some of the other shots are ok and the game is pretty logical and easy to understand. Happy to see it go.

Worst WORST WORST DMD ever made. Someone has to be at the bottom. and SF2 has fully earned it with flying colors. Someone really shite the bed on this one.

Being a fan of fighting games from the 90's, the theme for this pin goes well by me. I appreciate the fact that you have to get the 12 fighters to begin Wizard mode, even though you can get Mr.Bison first. The saver beneath the flippers is something I like. The backglass is...funny. The characters are bizaroid on it, weird shaped body and look on their face. This pin is underrated but everybody's got their opinion.

somewhat underwhelming. great theme is squandered in a late gottlieb game where they seem to be hardly trying. lower level car smash toy seems like it could have had more to it.

Great pinball. I don't understand The hate for this machine. Fun to play And great theme

There are a lot of people who despise this pin and I can empathize with them as to why. The stop and go aspect, the nasty looking translite, car crunch, the music and callouts, the horrible DMD animations, only 3 ball multiball....yada yada. I get it.

But this pin is for those who enjoyed playing the arcade game. There's a certain nostalgia I get from playing this pin. It nicely incorporates the arcade game mode of defeating all the fighters. There are some tricky shots and some funky ramps. The callouts and sounds are just corny as heck...but they always bring a smile to my face.

First off, I am a big street fighter 2 fan. This pin has great music and IMO represents and captures the theme fairy well. The only problem is that it is a gottleib machine. I think the machine is great for the right price but a few things could make the game go a long way. Here are my cons with the machine

-No auto launch for multi ball
-No ball save/timer for multiball
-Only two ball multiball (not considering torpedo as its more rare)
-Animations are piss poor
-Callouts aren't great.

Pros:
-Good game for the price
-Cool theme
-Great level of challenge/fun
-Tricky shots

Street Fighter II is a challenging game with gameplay that stays true to the source material. The playfield layout is original and there's lots going on. 3 floors, 3 flippers, 2 Stargate Ramps and lots of shots keep things interesting.

The music is pretty cool and engaging. Some sound bites are awesome and come straight from the video game. Others however are pretty rediculous.

The game certainly has its flaws. Mainly in the software- and the art department. However, name me one flawless pin. This pin certainly does not deserve the heaps of hate it gets. It's no Striker Extreme. Gottlieb's main problem is that they miss the finesse that makes the Bally/WMS from this time period so popular.

Lots of things on this pin are tweakable to give a better play experience: the Car Crush, the rules and the flippers come to mind.

If you can find one, give a nicely shopped Street Fighter II a chance. It might surprise you.

Do you remember the girl that people said not to date for various reasons but when you actually take the plunge you come to the realization that she ain't that bad at all and you quite enjoy her? This is Street Fighter! I enjoy this game quite a bit and as many people say it is a shooters pin. There is a lot of stops which isn't necessarily a bad thing. One thing I do not enjoy is the lack of in game bonuses other than the torpedo multiball. I'd also enjoy more than just a 2 ball multi-ball or that 3 ball torpedo multiball. Overall, a great addition to my collection.
