Love the Movie and love the Pin. Goes along with the movie perfectly.Game has great flow and i love brain bug popping up after all bugs are destroyed. SST has a lot of multi-ball,straight forward rules and that just one more game factor. The playfield looks great with all the toys and bright colors

At first glance, Star Ship Troopers looks pretty awful. An unlucky dude who got half of its body bitten of is prominently placed between the flippers and sets the mood for this gory game. The backglass, the cabinet - it's all not very inviting if you ask me. But once you get past the initial looks and start a game, unexpected fun begins.

The game features 4 digital counters in the area between the slings. The concept is simple. Hit colored targets all over the playfield to lower the count of corresponding digital scorekeepers. Uncomplicated but unexpected fun! But there's more than meets the eye. When all creatures are destroyed the choice is your: nuke the planet or move on to the next. There is enough challenge in this game to keep you going for some time and the multiballs are fun!

The sound bytes are kind of hilarious in a tacky kind of way. The music is totally 80s style commodore 64 inspired sid chip coolness - a pleasure to hear and possibly this pins best asset.

All in all, I can recommend giving this game a try - I started out hating this game because it's just so ugly, but find I'm enjoying it more and more each week. Give this pin a chance and you could be pleasantly surprised by its original rules and total over-the-top violence and dark humor (the enormous brain bug that pops out from under the playfield is notoriously hard to hit sometimes).

Fun game though the play field feels a bit clunky. The actual switches are a bit strange and I'm not sure what real purpose the center magnet at the back of the PF really does. Seems just shy of a really great game. I like the third flipper and top notch video and sounds. I think this game is just missing something to be a top 50.

first off, i HATE the movie. it's god awful. complete garbage.

but the pin is just plain fun...

cab/backglass: the cab art is horrid, but does fit in with the theme well. the backglass is OK, but kind of bland...basically just a scene from the movie.

the lighting is pretty cool, but nothing special.

the sounds, again, not bad...nothing special. i do like some of the quotes ("get up you maggots!!!!" lol).

for me, what does it for this pin is the gameplay...i love it. it's fast and fun. i'm an average pinball player skill-wise and this pin kicks my tail...i find it very difficult to post big scores on it. i love the two ramps, but they are positioned ever-so-slightly out of the "norm" that you have to pay attention to hit them...especially repeatedly.

i love the multiball locking mech..and there's several multiball modes, which is cool.

the 3rd flipper feature is pretty cool too...you can use it to hit the extra ball/nuke hole OR to take down 2 bugs at a time.

fun pin.

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I'm a huge fan of the movie, and I think they did a terrific job incorporating the theme. The sound, however, can get really grating (particularly the Michael Ironside quotes). There is also something I just don't like about Sega pins. They play much differently than other machines, and they just feel cheap to me.

That being said, Starship Troopers has a lot going for it. The playfield is fairly well laid out, and there are a variety of interesting shots to make. My favorite is continuously nailing the "Assault Range" until it opens up for multi-ball. The tri-flipper is another thing I like. Once you get used to it, you can do a lot of cool things with the ball(s). Lastly, the artwork is pretty slick. If you like 'em bright and colorful, this pin's for you!

Overall, I think Starship Troopers is a fun machine. Just turn the sound down a bit, and hopefully you won't get a headache.

One of the better games from Sega. Yes, not ALL Sega pins suck. Extremely underrated pinny. The game has a big wide open space in the middle to make shots, albeit few of them. Ugly color scheme PF art, cool toys, attractive light show, and a nice translite. Decent music and good sound quotes from the movie. The gimmick of this game is the extra right flipper, which is REALLY cool, because using it will mean more scoring/shot opportunities (ie, its actually useful). Bummer that the game has a very shallow ruleset. A good choice to add towards a pin collection, as this pin is affordable.

Fun game. Good light show and toys and the artwork is cool. The Brain bug is the first Stern pop up bash target but isn't over used. Some real good quotes from the movie and the music isn't bad. Kinda easy and repetitive though. Good for a few quick games or in a large collection but not enough variation for a small one.

I loved starship troopers movie so i'm a bit biased. My first sega and i'm happy with it. the playfield is fast and open. The two ramps are nice. Rules are easy to understand, but are a little repetitive - kill all the bugs, then nuke the planet, and repeat, and repeat...even so, it's a fast, fun, testosterone filled game that is great for a quick blast. I would of liked a few more sound bytes and spot effects, but overall it's a great sounding, and looking, game. Great flasher lightshow too. Looks and plays more like a modern stern than an older bally / williams game, and cheap to boot.
