A fun pin for the era! The backbox animation is cool and hearing the bell for a goal is always rewarding. The scoring aspect may not add much in terms of achieving points, but I honestly tend to focus more on scoring goals than trying to get a high score. It adds an interesting feature to the game and matches the theme well. The manual ball lift is full all on its own!

This machine is just amazing. Pretty much everything about it is great for 1964.

It is really fun to score team points and pinball points. The multiple bells are loud and clear. When set up right, this game really zips. As mentioned in previous reviews, the outlanes are brutal and the tiny metal flippers leave a fairly wide gap too.

I took this one on as a project, and am really not a fan of the theme at all.
That said, after getting it playable, it has become a popular one to play at our
house for all ages.

As with other comments, I agree, it is really important to have this one set up
properly and cleaned to maintain a good flow. Opportunities for some more
skillful play is a key for some older machines which can drain easily.

Ruleset was fun to figure out while repairing the mechanics. Many machines in
this era use the contact reel which goes back and forth, but what better
application than a sports game where the team travels back and forth naturally?
This fits in with playfield lighting which 'tracks' the current ball position on
the field, going back and forth, switching sides, and scoring goals when it
makes it to the goal line!

Coloured advance bumpers score more points based on team possession, and the
lighting flips back and forth accordingly. Landing in the center goal can take
some skillful nudging, and a bonus to score points on the kickout.

Many different replay and objectives to shoot and add different challenges for
players. (i.e, x goals for selected team = replay, many configurable score
options for replays)

The Pros:
Great action up top and a dual layered PF "goal" means that this game keeps on ticking as long as you can keep on flipping. Hearing the bell when you score a goal is a real treat. You actually have 3 options with scoring. Are you playing for the blue team, the red team or for points? Trying to beat the other team is surprisingly difficult when the pops start to send the ball careening all over the PF. I am a big fan of the PF AND the BG animation on this deck. Features galore!

The Cons:
Not the biggest fan of the BG. It's rather bland and boring. The center standup is the epitome of a deathshot. The kicker in the middle of the PF needs to be adjusted to keep it from hitting the standup and feeding the kicker over and over and over and over, by far this is my biggest issue with this deck.

The Takeaway:
Soccer is a really good game when properly maintained. Beware of the outlanes, as these are some of the hungriest I have ever met in my entire life. Norm Clark created a surprisingly deep job on this EM deck from 1964. Check it out!!!
