Truly a beautiful game. The many pop bumper colors give this game real nostalgic eye appeal. But the fun of this game is in playing it. Knock out all 12 lights and get a random number to shoot for for a replay. Roll over the advance button just above the flippers and achieve credits that way. Fairly easy to think you’re going to beat this game, only to come up just short.

Having the ability to make the 1-12 target either as rollovers or on the clock-shaped target at the top of the playfield means you’re never far from achieving a special.

I have had my Sky-Line for a little while now. I am enthralled with the "one more game" aspect of it for myself. The double backglass animations are fantastic and i'm totally pleased with this pin. It may not leave for a while.

A game where the schtick (the elevator!) and the artwork are so pleasing that it raises a fairly simple game play up to a level of enjoyment well above the sum of its parts. The scoring is pretty simple in the end - for a two-inch flipper game, it's got about four shots to make - get it up into the bumpers high and leave it, collect the elevator levels 1-12 at will. But enjoy the swells partying down all the while, and bump and grind as best you can. The era is straight up gambling -- the payoff on this game are specials, and the literal payoff came from collecting them as frequently as you could -- so if you own this game, you might do something like have a jar of coins or candy or something and you get one every time you make a special.

An absolutely beautiful 2-inch flipper game. It is enjoyable to play, however, the game's main goal of collecting all the "floors" is a tad to easy to achieve. A game like World Fair, released at this same time by Gottlieb, provides more of a challenge--its spin function is not always lit like the "multi-bumper" is in Skyline. Why bother trying to make the numbered rollovers, as the multi-bumper is easier to collect numbers off of. It is a cool little toy, but needs a "When Lit" function attached to it to bring another dimension of gameplay to Sky-Line. That said, there is a lot going on in this game, mechanically, to stimulate the senses--from the sliding elevator door to the moving floor number in the backbox. Roy Parker's art was never better, as he really brings the lavish party scene to life with ritzy costumes and hues that pop against the big city skyline.

Skyline is a Classic Neyens Gottlieb Wedgehead design.

The Pros:
A great layout with lots of action and skillful anticipation to keep the ball from heading out toward the outlanes. Lots to hit and the top lanes at the top require skillful plunging and nudging from the first ball launched into the PF. There are no inlanes on this deck, so any ball that goes towards the sides is a goner. Advancing the floors gets you closer to specials in the game and also uses BOTH BG animations. Party people, your game is here once those doors open up. Cigar smoking hobos and goosepurses are all the rage on this game! Other than a boring cab, this game has an absolutely STUNNING art package.

The Cons:
This game has to be set up properly or it can play quite long. All the switches on the multi bumper need to be adjusted and paid attention to for best play. Finding a replacement glass may not be easy and is probably expensive. Surviving the PF is the key to high scores.

The Takeaway:
A fantastic looking game that plays great! Find one if you can and enjoy the game.

A few years back I had the pleasure of being a proud owner of a nice original condition Sky Line which stood noticeable in my line up of 24 American made wedge heads. This attractive game has outstanding coloring and artwork throughout the entire game and is enjoyable to view and fun to play. The comical light box animation on this classic 1960’s wedge head has two separate moving mechcanical devices in one game with the elevator doors opening/closing and the arrow pointer indicator stepping up/down for each floor as player is rewarded. When looking at the playfield with its perfectly polished metal jewel posts for the first time gives the player the impression that the five pop bumper arrangement would have lots of quick ball rebounding action ,but I think because there is a dead pop bumper and wire rollover pinwheel type unit between the five pops that it tends to die the ball out which isn’t appealing to me. Also the left/right side out lanes are a little wide, plus feel out of place in their location which seems to attracts the ball to drain out more often then other wedge heads, especially when a player uses the the side kicker sling shots while shaking to his/hers advantage. I must say though that the gap between the flippers is short compared to other wedge heads from the same era (like Cross Town etc) and gives a player many more flipper saves then the normal and is without a doubt player friendly in that aspect. For sure this game has to be set on the preferred setting according to its owners playing skills (liberal, conservative, etc). I had mixed emotions about this game as a player while it was in my collection because it seems the player hasn’t much control of the ball even with better than average shaking skills. If i had unlimited space then this game would be a must in my wedge head collection even with its minor flaws. I will mention that i traded my Skyline for what I think could be one of the best 2” flipper drop target games ever produced by those amazing people at Gottlieb called 2001. Still today feel I made the right choice for my playability needs. To me the most important thing about pinball is playing the games and competing against the game to the best of my ability. This mentality is what keeps me as player interested in wanting to constantly play the games in my collection today and is mainly the reason i was so addicted to playing them so much as a kid growing up since 1963

When you play a tired old game it stinks but give your game some voltage Viagra by adding bridge rectifiers (or one single rectifier 30 Amp) to the bumpers and flippers and the whole thing transforms into a mass of fast action. We did this to my game. She had been owned by the same family since December 1971 (I saw the receipt) and they had done nothing to the game, Nothing! The rubbers had turned to dust and when I powered her up she blew the main fuse in the plug. That was ages ago.
The game was totally (I mean) totally overhauled and with the bridge rectifiers it plays like a bat out of inferno. This is another lovely Roy Parker piece of art Americana, smiling people in lovely attire looking curiously on at the elevator doors. A fun game which has me coming back for more. A work of art? Yes. A great game? Possibly not great, but very good.

Nice looking game, great artwork. Simple rules but the elevator levels happens more by luck than skill. Getting all the numbers and chasing the special is a great feature. Ultimately though this title just doesn't quite have the addictive nature of some of the other classic titles around this era.

Sky line is an atemporal piece of art. Yes, you can design a pin around an elevator... which translates into a double animation on the backglass. This Pin is really representative of a golden age and of a lost word. Besides this fantastic art, I actually enjoy the game!
